When you cannot load a microcassette:

    Check to see if the cassette is inserted correctly.

When a tape does not run:

     Check to see if the batteries are weak.

     Check to batteries' polarity.

     Check the AC or DC adapter connections.

     Check the multi-function switch.

When the sound level is unstable or low:

    Check to see if the batteries are weak.

    Check to see if the head and/or pinch roller is dirty.

    Check the VOLUME control.

When the previously recorded material is not erased completely: 

    The erase head is dirty.

When the unit works with the built-in microphone, but won't work with external microphone(s):

    Make sure the microphone(s) are self-powered (i.e. they have either a
    battery or a power cord).  This recorder does NOT provide power to the
    microphone jack.
