SETTING THE TIME

1.  Press and hold down TIME SET on the top of the clock radio.

2.  While holding down TIME SET, repeatedly press or hold down HOUR to set
    the correct hour.

    Be sure to set AM or PM correctly.  For PM hours, a PM indicator
    appears on the top left of the display.

3.  While holding down TIME SET, repeatedly press or press and hold down
    MINUTES to set the correct minutes.

SETTING THE ALARM 

You can set the alarm so the alarm buzzer, radio, or tape player turns on
at the preset time.

1.  Press and hold down ALARM SET.

2.  While holding down ALARM SET, repeatedly press or press and hold down
    HOUR to set the correct hour.

    Be sure to set AM or PM correctly.  For PM hours, a PM indicator
    appears on the top left of the display.

3.  While holding down ALARM SET, repeatedly press or press and hold down
    MINUTE to set the correct minutes.

TURNING ON/OFF THE ALARM

Adjust VOLUME on the right side of the clock radio to a level which will
wake you.

1.  Set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM located on the left side of the clock radio.

    ALARM-The buzzer sounds at the preset alarm time.

    AUTO-The radio sounds or the tape player plays at the preset alarm
    time.

    The alarm indicator lights.

2.  If you set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM to AUTO, you must also set RADIO/TAPE.

    RADIO-The radio sounds at the preset alarm time.

    TAPE-The tape plays at the preset alarm time.

At the preset alarm time, the alarm, radio, or tape player sounds for 59
minutes, then automatically turns off.

Note:  The tape player automatically stops when the tape reaches the end
       even if this is before 59 minutes pass.

To silence the alarm before the 59 minutes pass, press ALARM OFF on the
top of the clock radio.

To turn off the alarm, set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM to OFF.  Otherwise, the alarm
repeats every 24 hours.

USING SNOOZE

To temporarily silence the buzzer, radio, or tape player, but have it
sound again after 9 minutes, press SNOOZE.

The SNOOZE cycle repeats until you press ALARM OFF or set ON/OFF/AUTO/
ALARM to OFF.

USING HEADPHONES

To connect a pair of headphones, plug the headphones' 1/8-inch plug into
the EARPHONE jack.  Your local Radio Shack store has a wide selection of
headphones.

Note:  When headphones are connected, the speakers are automatically
       disconnected.

Listening Safety

To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use headphones.

    Do not listen at extremely high volume levels.  Extended high-volume
    listening can lead to a permanent hearing loss.

    Set the volume to its lowest setting before listening.  After you put
    on the headphones, adjust the volume to a comfortable listening level.

    Do not increase the volume once you have established a comfortable
    listening level.  Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a
    volume level that does not cause discomfort could still damage your
    hearing.

RADIO OPERATION

1.  Set ON/OFF/AUTO/ALARM to ON.

2.  Set RADIO/TAPE to RADIO.

3.  Set AM/FM MONO/FM STEREO to your desired band.

Notes:  The Chronomatic-293 has two antennas.  The AM antenna is built-in.
        Turn the Chronomatic-293 to improve AM reception.  For the best
        FM reception, fully extend the AC power cord.  It serves as the
        FM antenna.

        The FM indicator lights when you receive an FM station in stereo.

        To improve reception from weak FM radio stations, set AM/FM MONO/
        FM STEREO to FM.  The sound changes from stereo to monaural
        (mono), but the sound quality improves.

4.  Turn TUNING to the desired station.

5.  Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level.

6.  To turn off the radio, set RADIO/TAPE to TAPE.

USING THE SLEEP TIMER

You can set the radio to play for up to 1 hour and 59 minutes and then
automatically turn off.

1.  Set ON/OFF/ALARM/AUTO to OFF.

2.  Press SLEEP.   0:59 appears on the display while you hold down SLEEP.

To set playing time for less than 59 minutes, repeatedly press or
press and hold MINUTE while you hold SLEEP.  The remaining minutes
count backwards.

To set the playing time for 1 hour and 59 minutes, press and hold
SLEEP and HOUR.  1:59 appears on the display.  Then repeatedly press
and hold MINUTE while you hold SLEEP.  The remaining minutes count
backwards.

To turn off SLEEP before the time runs out, press SNOOZE.

CASSETTE OPERATION

PLAYING A CASSETTE TIMER

1.  Use your finger or a pencil to turn the cassette's hub and take up
    any tape slack.

2.  Press STOP/EJECT to open the cassette compartment door.

3.  Load the cassette with its open edge facing the front of the unit,
    the full reel to the left, and the desired side facing up.  The side
    facing up is the side that plays.

4.  Close the cassette compartment door.

5.  Set RADIO/TAPE to TAPE.

6.  Press PLAY.

7.  Adjust VOLUME for a comfortable listening level.

    Press FAST-F or REWIND to fast-forward or rewind the cassette.  To
    stop fast-forward or rewind before the end of the tape, press STOP/
    EJECT.

    To stop the tape, press STOP/EJECT.  Press STOP/EJECT again to open
    the cassette compartment.

Note:  When the tape reaches the end, the Chronomatic-293 automatically
       stops.
