Plug the left speaker wire's phono plug into the SPEAKER L jack. 2. Plug the right speaker wire's phono plug into the SPEAKER R jack. CONNECTING ANOTHER AUDIO SOURCE To connect an additional (auxiliary) audio source (such as an external CD player or a cassette deck) to your music system, connect the left and right line level output jacks of the source to the AUX (auxiliary) L (left) and R (right) input jacks on the back of your music system. CONNECTING AN EXTERNAL ANTENNA The system has two antennas. The AM antenna is built-in and the FM antenna is in the power cord. For improved reception, you can attach an FM or VHF antenna (not supplied) to the 75 or 300 terminals on the back of the music system. If you have an outside VHF TV antenna, you can use a 300-ohm signal splitter to connect your radio and TV set to the same antenna. Your local Radio Shack store sells a wide selection of antennas and connectors. CONNECTING TO POWER After you complete all connections, plug the music system's supplied power cord into a standard AC outlet. The STANDBY indicator lights to indicate that power is connected to the music system. When you press POWER to turn on the system, the STANDBY indicator turns off. Notes: If you repeatedly press POWER, the CD player might lock up. If so, you should unplug the system's power cord and re-insert it into a standard AC outlet. If there is a short power loss, two indicators might light at the same time. If so, press FUNCTION to reset the system. INSTALLING THE REMOTE CONTROL'S BATTERIES The remote control requires two AAA batteries (not supplied) for power. We recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-555. 1. Press down and slide the battery compartment cover in the direction of the arrow. 2. Install the batteries as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the compartment. 3. Insert the headphones 1/8 - inch (3.5 mm) plug into the PHONES jack on the front of the system. Notes: Your local Radio Shack store sells a wide selection of headphones. Plugging in headphones automatically disconnects the speakers. Listening Safely To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use the headphones. Set the volume to the lowest setting before you begin listening. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level. Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing. USING THE THREE BAND FREQUENCY EQUALIZER AND E-BASS CONTROL Three Band Frequency Equalizer You can use the three band frequency equalizer to customize the sound. Each of the three controls lets you adjust the volume for a specific frequency range. Slide the control up to boost, or down to reduce the level in the indicated frequency range. If you set the control to the center position (0), the frequency range is unaltered. 100Hz - Adjusts the frequencies in the low-bass range (low organ notes and bass drums). Reduces rumble or other low frequency noise. 1 kHz - Adjusts the range of frequencies where the ear is most sensitive (vocals). 10 kHz - Adjusts high - frequency sounds (cymbals, flutes, and violins). E - BASS Press E-BASS to the in position for enhanced bass effects. The E-BASS indicator lights. Press E-BASS to the out position for normal bass sound. USING THE REMOTE CONTROL The remote control's buttons control the same functions as the corresponding buttons on the main system. In addition, the remote control has a MUTE button, which lets you temporarily turn off the sound. Press MUTE once to turn off the sound. The MUTE indicator lights. Press MUTE again to restore the sound. Point the remote control toward the REMOTE SENSOR on the front panel of the system.. There should be a clear path between the transmitter and the sensor. The remote control works up to a distance of about 19 feet. Weak batteries or direct sunlight on the remote sensor might reduce the operating range of the remote control. Caution: If you are going to use the remote control for an extended period of time, remove its batteries. Weak batteries can leak damaging chemicals. (pm/all-03/03/95)
