SCR-50 (140-0706) Installation Faxback Doc. # 9968 You can power the SCR-50 by plugging the supplied AC cord into the AC jack, then into a standard AC outlet. BATTERIES Your SCR-50 uses six batteries (not supplied). For best results, we recommend alkaline batteries such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552. 1. Slide the battery compartment cover in the direction of the arrow and remove the cover. 2. Insert six AA batteries as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the battery compartment. 3. Replace the battery compartment cover. Cautions: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type. Never leave dead or weak batteries in the radio. If the radio will not be used for several days, remove the batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries. Dispose of batteries properly; do not bury or burn them. VEHICLE BATTERY POWER You can use an optional DC adapter to power the SCR-50 from your vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket, if your vehicle has a 12-volt DC, negative- ground electrical system. We recommend Radio Shack Cat. No. 273-1802. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 9V. Caution: Always connect the adapter to the SCR-50 before you connect it to the cigarette-lighter socket. Then disconnect it from the cigarette-lighter socket before you disconnect it from the SCR-50. Notes: You must use a DC adapter that supplies 9 volts and delivers at least 500 mA. Its center tip must be set to negative, and its plug must correctly fit the SCR-50's DC 9V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the SCR-50 or the adapter. If the SR-50 does not operate properly when you use DC power, be sure the cigarette-lighter socket is clean and that the adapter's plug is pushed all the way into the socket. Do not leave the adapter plugged into the cigarette-lighter socket or connected to the SCR-50 when you are not using the SCR-50. The internal batteries power is automatically disconnected when you plug the adapter into the DC 9V jack. CARRYING STRAP The removable strap allows you "hands free" movement while you listen to the radio. Follow these steps to attach the strap. 1. Insert the strap end into the strap hanger bar. 2. Loop the strap end around the bar and pull up on the strap. 3. Insert the free end of the strap back into the inner part of the buckle. 4. Pull the strap end through the top of the buckle far enough to stop the strap from slipping. 5. Repeat Steps 1-4 for the other strap end. To shorten the strap for hand carrying, slide the two buckles toward each other. To lengthen the strap, slide the two buckles apart. (br/all-03/06/95)
