UNDERSTANDING THE CONTROLS Turn the stereo on and off, change the FREQ, and adjust the stereo's sound as described below. VOL - Turn VOL to turn the stereo on or off and adjust the volume. FAD - Turn FAD to adjust the balance between front and rear speakers. Note: If you have only one set of speakers (and they are connected to the front speaker socket), turn FAD clockwise. BAL - Turn BAL to adjust the balance between the left and right speakers. TONE - Turn TONE to adjust the sound tone; clockwise provides more low- frequency (bass) sounds while counterclockwise provides high- frequency (treble) sound. FREQ - Press FREQ to change the display to the clock or station frequency. Note: The display automatically shows the frequency when you change the band or frequency, store a station in memory, or select a stored station. Follow these steps to listen to the radio. 1. Turn on the vehicle's ignition. Turn VOL clockwise to turn on the stereo. If a cassette tape is in the cassette player, press EJECT. 2. Press BAND to select the band, (FM1, FM2, or FM3 to select the FM band; AM1, AM2, to Select the AM band.) Note: The band selected appears on the display. 3. Tune to the desired station in one of the following ways: Manual Tuning : Press ^ or \/ to change the frequency more rapidly. Auto-Seek Tuning : Press SEEK to tune to the next higher station with a strong signal. Scan Tuning : Press SCAN to scan the available stations. The radio pauses for 5 seconds at each station with a strong signal. The stations frequency flashes on the display. When the radio pauses at a station you want to listen to, press SCAN again to stop scanning. Memory/Memory Scan Tuning: See "Memory Tuning." 4. Turn TONE to adjust the sound. 5. Press LOUD when you listen to a program at low volume. This function accentuates bass and treble to create a natural sound. 6. To turn off the stereo, turn VOL counterclockwise until you hear a click. Notes: Signal appears on the display when the radio receives an FM stereo signal. Each time you press BAND, the radio automatically tunes to the last station you selected in that band. USING SEEK/SCAN During normal SEEK or SCAN tuning, the stereo first searches the frequency band for stations with a strong signal. LOC appears on the display to show the stereo is searching for local stations. If the stereo searches the entire frequency band without finding a strong signal, it automatically switches to DX and searches the band again looking for weak or distant signals. LOC disappears from the display when the stereo is in the distant mode. Note: DX is an automatic function and you will not see any displays or indicators to show DX. MEMORY TUNING You can store up to 12 AM and 18 FM stations in memory. You can fill two memory groups in the AM band (AM1, AM2) and three memory groups in the FM band (FM1, FM2, and FM3). Each memory group can contain up to six stations. If you use automatic memory storage, the stereo searches for the next six stations in a band and automatically enters these into a memory group. Manual storage lets you enter individual stations into a memory group. You can select a stored station by selecting the memory group and pressing the correct memory location button, or you can scan all stations in a memory group. Automatically Storing Stations Follow these steps to let the stereo automatically store stations into memory. 1. Turn on the vehicle's ignition. Then turn VOL clockwise to turn on the stereo. If a cassette tape is in the cassette player, press EJECT. 2. Press BAND to select the band and memory group. For example, select FM1 to store the first group of FM Stations. 3. Press and hold AMS.MS for 3 seconds. The system scans the selected band and automatically stores the next six strong stations. CH, the memory location number, and the station's frequency appear on the display for each stored station. After the system enters all six stations into memory, it tunes to the first stored station in the memory group and begins to play. 4. Repeat Steps 2-3 for each memory group. Manually Storing Stations Follow these steps to manually enter a station into memory. 1. Turn on the vehicle's ignition. Then turn VOL clockwise to turn on the stereo. If a cassette tape is in the cassette player, press EJECT. 2. Press BAND to select the band and memory group. For example, select FM1 to enter a station into the first group of FM stations. 3. Use any tuning method to tune to the station you want to store. See "Basic Operation." 4. Press and hold down the desired memory location button. The radio temporarily plays at a very low volume. When the volume returns to its previous level, release the memory location button. This stores the station in the selected memory group/location. Selecting a Stored Station To select a stored station, press BAND to select the correct memory group. Then press the desired memory location button (1-6). Scanning Stored Stations Press BAND to select the memory group. Then press AMS.MS to scan the stored stations. Note: Do not hold down the AMS.MS button. This sets the radio to automatically store stations into memory. The radio scans all stored stations in the memory group, pausing for 5 seconds at each station. As the radio pauses at a station, the stations frequency appears and the number below CH flashes on the display. When the radio pauses at a station you want to listen to, press AMS.MS again to select the station. (br/all-10/20/94)
