AM/FM Car Stereo (120-1990) Cassette Player Operation Faxback Doc. # 7848 Follow these steps to play a cassette tape. 1. Turn on the vehicle's ignition. Then turn VOL clockwise to turn on the stereo. 2. Take up any tape slack by turning the cassette's hub with your finger or a pencil. Avoid touching the tape. 3. Insert a cassette tape into the cassette compartment with its open edge facing right and the desired tape side facing up. The tape begins to play. 4. If you use metal, CrO2 or Type II tape (70microS equalization), press MTL so MTL appears on the display. For other tape types, press MTL so MTL does not appear on the display. 5. Adjust the sound to suit your listening preferences. See "Understanding the Controls." 6. Press EJECT to stop play and eject the tape. Notes: Avoid using C-120 cassette tapes. They are very thin and can easily become tangled in the playback mechanism. To play the tape's other side, press REW and FF at the same time while the tape is playing. Press FF to fast-forward the tape. Press REW to rewind the tape. To stop fast-forward or rewind, press the opposite button. When the tape plays to the end, the cassette player automatically reverses the tape and plays the other side. CONNECTING A COMPACT DISC PLAYER You can connect a portable CD player (or other audio component with a line-level output) to the stereo. Use a stereo mini jack cable, such as Cat. No. 42-2387. Connect one end of the cable to the stereo's CD jack. Connect the cable's other end to the CD player or other component's output jack. Note: When you plug a cable into the stereo's CD jack, the radio and cassette player are muted. Be sure to disconnect the CD player when you are not using it. (br/all-10/20/94)
