40-Watt Surface Mount (120-1729) Installation Faxback Doc. # 9946 Car Speakers Before mounting the speakers, we recommend you temporarily connect them to your sound equipment and place the speakers where they produce the best stereo image. CONNECTING THE SPEAKERS Caution: To avoid possible damage to the speakers.: Turn off power to your sound equipment before connecting the speakers. Make sure your sound equipment's output impedance matches the speakers' impedance of 4 ohms. Do not exceed the speakers' total maximum power of 40 watts (20 watts each channel). You can use your speakers in a two-speaker or four-speaker system. Follow these steps to connect a pair of speakers. 1. Connect the right speaker's black negative (-) wire to your sound system's right speaker negative (-) terminal. 2. Connect the right speaker's black with white strip positive (+) wire to your sound system's right speaker positive (+) terminal. 3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 to connect the left speaker to your sound system. Repeat Steps 1-3 to connect an additional pair of speakers to your sound system. MOUNTING THE SPEAKERS After you test the speakers and confirm they operate properly, disconnect the speakers from your sound system, then follow these steps to mount the speakers. Caution: Be careful not to drill into any wires or other vehicle parts beneath the mounting surface. 1. Mark the positions for the bolt hole and speaker cords at each mounting location. 2. Drill one 3/16-inch bolt hole and one 7/16-inch speaker wire hole at each mounting location. 3. Screw the supplied mounting bolt into the bolt hole on the bottom of the speaker case. Position the end with the "+" slot facing out so you can use a Phillips screwdriver to secure it tightly. 4. Thread the wiring through the 7/16-inch hole and mount the speaker by inserting the mounting bolt into the 3/16-inch hole in the mounting surface. 5. Secure the speaker case using the U-type fastener, spring washer, and wing nut. 6. Reconnect the speakers to your sound system (see "Connecting the speakers"). (pm/all-03/03/95)
