Four-Way Bass Reflex (120-1713) Installation Faxback Doc. # 9950 Car Speaker All Radio Shack autosound systems come with four color-coded speaker wires. The following chart shows Radio Shack's standard color codes. Speaker Terminal Wire Color Left Positive (+) Green Left Negative (-) White Right Positive (+) Brown Left Negative (-) Gray Connect the stereo's speaker wires to your vehicle's speakers using the color code chart as a guide. Note: Other autosound systems are also equipped with four wires but the wires may not use the same color codes. If your autosound is a brand other than Radio Shack, check the owner's manual for the speaker wire color codes. Caution: Do not connect any of your speaker wires to the chassis ground. Use all four wires to connect your speakers to your vehicle's autosound system. Notes: Be sure that you match the speaker wires to their corresponding positive (+) or negative (-) speaker terminals to ensure proper phasing. Improper phasing can cause poor bass response. If your speaker system includes rear speakers, the same color code applies. If your autosound system has a front to rear fader, connect your speakers as shown: MOUNTING YOUR SPEAKERS Before you mount your speakers, turn on your autosound system to be sure that you properly connected the speakers. Note: If you are unsure about any part of the installation process, we recommend that you have a professional install your speakers. To mount each speaker: 1. Select a flat area (such as your car's rear deck) for the mounting surface. The surface should be solid enough for you to drill the mounting holes. 2. Use the speaker cabinet's base as a template to mark the desired mounting position. 3. Drill a hole 6mm wide in the center of the mounting position. 4. Loosely thread the wing nut about halfway onto the bolt with the wings facing the bolt's head. Then, place the flat washer over the bolt. 5. Place the speaker cabinet in the mounting position, lining up the cabinet's mounting hole with the drilled hole. 6. From the underside of the mounting surface, insert the bolt through the drilled hole and use a Phillips screwdriver to screw it as far as possible into the speaker's mounting hole. 7. Secure the speaker cabinet by tightening the wing nut. (pm/all-03/14/95)
