2100 (250-1624) BOCA Multi I/O Board Faxback Doc. # 15814 The BOCA IDE Controller supports two IDE hard drives and two diskette drives. Features Include: Diskette support for both 5.25-inch (360K and 1.2 MB) and 3.5-inch (720K and 1.44MB) a 16-bit interface Connector for hard drive LED Hard drive primary/secondary selection and enable/disable Before going any further, please examine the IDE Controller for any visible damage which may have occurred during shipment. If damage exists or if any items appear to be missing, please contact the retailer from whom the IDE Controller was purchased. PRIMARY/SECONDARY DRIVE ADDRESSES The primary and secondary addressing jumper block is labelled J7 and is used for both the hard drive interface (HDC) and floppy drive controller (FDC). Primary addresses are set as shown below. J7 would be configured as above if the IDE PLUS were the first or only hard and floppy drive controller in the system. 40-pin cable to 34-pin cable to IDE drive floppy drive ───────────────┐ ┌───────────────── │ │ ────┐ │ │ ┌───── ┌── ┌┴──────────┴┐ ┌┴───────────┴┐ │ └────────────┘ └─────────────┘ ┌──┤ ││ ││ │ │ PIN 1 ─┐ \/ PIN 1 ─┐ \/ │ │ ┌────────┼─────────────────────────┼────────────────────────┘ │ │ J2 ┌────────────────┐ J1 ┌───────────────┐ │ │ └────────────────┘ └───────────────┘ │ │ IDE DRIVE FLOPPY DRIVE ┌┬┬┬┬┬┬┐ │ │ └┴┴┴┴┴┴┘ │ DRIVE │J6┌─┐ │ LED │ │ │ │ ────┼> │ │ J7 ┌────┐ ┌──────────┐ │ │ │ │ ┌──┐ │ │ │ │ │ │ └─┘ │ │ ┌┴────┴┐ │ │ │ │ ┌─┐ ┌> │ │ └─┬──┬─┘ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ └──┘ │ BOCA │ ┌┐ ┌┐ │ │ └─┘ │ ┌─┬┬┬┐ │ │ └┘ └┘ │ │ ┌─────┐ │ ┌┐ │ ││││ │ │ │ │┌─┬┐ │ │ │ ││ └─┴┴┴┘ │ │ ┌┐ ┌─┐ │ │└─┴┘ └─────┘ │ └┘ ┌────┐ └──────────┘ └┘ └─┘ │ │ │ └────┘ │ │ │ ┌──┐ ┌──────┤ └───────────────┼─────────┘ └──────────────────────────┘ │ ┌──┐ │ │ HDC-PRI │ │ ──┘ └─── ├──┤ HDC-SEC │oo│ ├──┤ FDC-PRI │ │ ├──┤ FDC-SEC │oo│ └──┘ Here are other common configurations: J7 J7 J7 ┌──┐ ┌──┐ ┌──┐ HDC-PRI │oo│ HDC-PRI │ │ HDC-PRI │oo│ ├──┤ ├──┤ ├──┤ HDC-SEC │ │ HDC-SEC │oo│ HDC-SEC │ │ ├──┤ ├──┤ ├──┤ FDC-PRI │oo│ FDC-PRI │oo│ FDC-PRI │oo│ ├──┤ ├──┤ ├──┤ FDC-SEC │ │ FDC-SEC │ │ FDC-SEC │oo│ └──┘ └──┘ └──┘ Board is used for Primary hard drive Secondary hard secondary and with secondary drive, but NO floppy support floppy controller additional floppy in the system. support. support is needed. FDC is disabled.* INSTALLATION Follow the directions below to physically install the IDE controller in the system. 1. Power down the computer and remove the cover from the system. 2. Select an empty expansion slot and remove the retaining screw and dust cover. Firmly insert the IDE controller card, securing it with the retaining screw. NOTE: Depending on the system layout and preferences, it may be easier to attach drive and LED cables before inserting the IDE Controller into the slot on the system board. 3. Attach the Drive Activity LED cable to the J6 connector. Attach one end of the 40-pin cable to the hard disk drive in the system and the other end to the J2 connector on the IDE Controller. When connecting and configuring a second hard drive, refer to the manufacturer's documentation. 4. Attach one end of the 34-pin cable to the floppy drive in the system and the other end to the J1 connector on the IDE Controller. NOTE: When connecting cables, be sure that Pin 1 on the cable, marked with a colored stripe (often red), matches up with pin 1 on the board connector. 5. Physical installation is complete. Power up the system and run FDISK and FORMAT to prepare your hard disk drive for use. If you connect the IDE Controller to a NEW hard drive, power up the system and run FDISK and FORMAT to prepare your hard disk drive for use. If you connected the IDE Controller to an EXISTING hard drive, simply power up the system and the controller will automatically recognize the drive. (ALL-06/29/95)
