At the MS-DOS prompt, change to the Windows directory. 3. Type SETUP and press . This will run the Windows maintenance mode. 4. When Windows displays the System Configuration screen, select one of the system types. Choose Intel 386SL Based System with APM. Windows will ask you to insert disk #2. SETUP will then copy the required APM driver files to the harddrive. (APM is Advanced Power Management) 5. At the MS-DOS prompt, type WIND to start Windows 3.1. The APM driver will be loaded automatically. Use Control Panel's Power Icon to change power options, view HELP information, and examine battery status. To Manually Install Power Icon and APM 1. Exit Windows 3.1 2. Locate the following files on your Windows 3.1 Setup disks, and use the expand.exe utility (located on disk 1) to copy these files to your Windows System directory. (POWER.DRV, POWER.HLP) 3. In addition to the Power files, copy the following files as appropriate for your computer. If you run Windows in Enhanced mode, copy VPOWERD.386. If your computer has a 386SL microprocessor with the SL Enhanced Option for APM, copy SL.DLL, and SL.HLP 4. Use a text editor to add "power.drv" to your drivers= line in the [boot] section of the system.ini file. 5. If you run Windows 3.1 in Enhanced mode, add the following line to your [386Enh] section of the system.ini file: device=vpowerd.386 6. If your PC has a 386 microprocessor with the SL enhanced options for APM, add the following section to the system.ini file: [power.drv] OptionsDLL=sl.dll 7. At the MS-DOS prompt, type WIN to start Windows 3.1. The APM drivers will load automatically.
