AT&T Globalyst 365TPC (12-10633) Cache Memory Faxback Doc. # 17457 Cache Memory The Pentium processor in your computer has 16KB of internal cache. An external cache module can be installed in the external cache socket on the main processor board (MPB). Additional external cache can boost the local memory subsystem's overal performance. Cache Memory Configurations: In talking with the AT&T Technical Support personnel, they advise the cache RAM design is an inhouse proprietary design. They recommended referring to this system as a "Class 3348" design. The part number for the cache RAM boards are as follows: 515 000 5432 1 MB Cache RAM 008 007 8210 256 KB Cache RAM ┌─────────────────────────┐ │Main Logic Board Layout: │ └─────────────────────────┘ Pictured but not present│ ┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────┼─────────────┐ │ ┌────┬──────────────┐ .... ┌.─.─.─.─.└┐ │ │ ┌┐ └────┴──────2───────┘ : : └.─.─.─.─.─┘ VGA ├┐ │ ││1 ┌─┐: 4 : ┌─────────┐ CN9 ├┘ │ └┘ ┌───────────┐ └3┘ .... └────5────┘ │ │ │ │ ┌─────┐ ┌─────┐ │├┐ F │ │ 8 │ │ │ │ │ LPT││ r │ ─. │ │ │ │ │ │ CN7││ o │ ││ └───────────┘ │ │ │ │ │││ n │ ─.J1 └──7──/ └───6─/ ├┘ t │ /─────┐ ┌──────\ ┌──────┐ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │COM2├┐ o │ └─────┘ └──────┘ └──────/ CN6├┘ f │ │ │ ┌──────────┬────────────────────┐COM1├┐ C │ └──────────┴─── 9───────────────┘ CN5├┘ o │ │ m │ MOUSE├┐ p │ ┌────────\┌────────────\ CN4├┘ u │┌─┐ └────────┘│ │ │ t ││ │ ┌────────16──────────┐ │ │ ┌────┐KBD├┐ e ││ │ ├──────SIMM 1────────┤ └────────────┘ │ │CN3├┘ r │└17 ├──────SIMM 2────────┤ \────┘ │ │ ├──────SIMM 3────────┤ ooo 13 /──┐ │ │ ├──────SIMM 4────────┤┌───┐ ┌────────────┐ │ │ │ │ ├──────SIMM 5────────┤└15─┘ └────12──────┘ └──┘ │ │ └──────SIMM 6────────┘┌───┐┌─────────────┐ ┌─────────────┐ │ │ └14─┘└─────11──────┘ └────10───────┘ │ └──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘ ┌───────────────────────────┐ │Installing External Cache: │ └───────────────────────────┘ NOTE: Static electricity can destroy electronic devices. Whenever you handle any option outside of its protective packaging, first discharge any static electricity from your body by touching a protective grounding device or unpainted metal on the rear panel of the system unit. To add external cache, follow these steps: 1. Turn off the computer, and disconnect all cables. 2. Discharge any accumulated static electricity from your body by touching a grounded metal object. Then, open the computer. 3. Locate the external cache socket on the MPB. 4. The middle notch at the bottom divides the cache module into two unequal halves. Position the notch over the center divider in the socket , matching the wide half of the module to the wide half of the opening in the socket. Important: The module can be correctly installed only when the wide set of contacts is inserted into the wide socket opening. 5. Push the module straight down into the socket. Make sure the keyed edge is inserted into the socket. 6. Replace computer cover. (CC/all-10/17/95)
