SENSATION!  (250-1651)  Printing from Bookshelf 1993   Faxback Doc. # 2878

With the Cirrus Logic video chip in the Sensation (250-1651) we are
encountering a conflict between the video drivers and the MVIEWER2 file,
so that you can not print directly from 1993 Bookshelf while running in
certain color resolutions of the Cirrus Logic video drivers and printer
drivers supporting color.

Examples of color video mode that give a G.P. Fault are 256, 65K or 16M.

Listed is the G.P. Fault recieved:

   "Application error, MVIEWER2 caused a General Protection fault in
   module DMCOLOR.DLL".


Changing the video mode.

If the video driver is set to 16 colors, Bookshelf will print the picture
and the text of the current topic correctly.

Use the SetRES icon in the VGA Utility group to change the number of
colors.

1.   Once you have changed to a 16 color mode and re-started Windows, open
     the Microsoft Multimedia group (from Program Manager) or IN TOUCH
     (from the WinMate desktop).

2.   Double-click on the Bookshelf 1993 icon.

3.   Now select the desired book and topic.

4.   Click on "File", then on "Print Topic".

     Note:  1993 Bookshelf will not print a color picture in color from
            Print Topic.  You must import the picture in to an application
            supporting color printing.

Cut and Paste topics from MS Bookshelf.

1.   From MS Bookshelf, select the book and click on the topic you want to
     print.

2.   Click on "Edit".

3.   Click on "Copy Picture".

     Note:  If the copy picture option is grayed out or does not appear,
            then that picture is not printable or can not be copied to the
            clipboard.

This will copy the picture to the clipboard.  Now it needs to be pasted
into a text file.

4.   Task switch to the Program Manager and double-click on the MS Works
     icon.  In the startup box, click on "Create a new 'Word Processor'".

5.   Click on "Edit".

6.   Click on "Paste".

This will paste the picture to your document.  Now task switch back to
MS Bookshelf.

7.   Click on "Edit".

8.   Click on "Copy".

9.   This will bring up the text of the topic that is open.  Click on
     "Copy" again.

Now the text has been copied to the clipboard.

10.  Task switch to MS Works word processor, and position your cursor
     below the picture.

11.  Click on "Edit", then on "Paste".

12   Click on "File", click on "Print" and click on "OK".

When printing from MS Bookshelf 1993 with the Cirrus Logic Video chip in
the Sensation! II (25-1651) you receive the following error: "Application
error, Mviewer caused a General Protection fault in module DMCOLOR.DLL".

This will occur with the video in the following modes:

    CL-GD5426/28 v1.32,  640 x 480 x 256
    CL-GD5426/28 v1.32,  640 x 480 x 64K colors
    CL-GD5426/28 v1.32,  640 x 480 x 16.8M Color
    CL-GD5426/28 v1.32,  800 x 600 x 256
    CL-GD5426/28 v1.32,  800 x 600 x 64K
    CL-GD5426/28 v1.32, 1024 x 768 x 256 Large Font
    CL-GD5426/28 v1.32, 1024 x 768 x 256 Small Font

Print Topic will print without any General Protection faults while the
Display is using the following video drivers. The five drivers listed
below will allow you to print the topic directly from Bookshelf, but the
picture does not print in color. Refer to the FINFAQ.TXT and README.TXT
for more information.

    CL-GD5426/28 v1.32,  640 x 480 x 16
    VGA
    Super VGA  640 x 480 x 256
    Super VGA  800 x 600 x 256
    Super VGA 1024 x 768 x 256

The Super VGA drivers were provided by Microsoft and do not come with the
Sensation! (25-1651). The MS download service has these drivers available.
Look for a file called "SVGA.EXE" (the phone number for the Microsoft BBS
is 206-936-6735).

To print a color picture from MS Bookshelf, follow the steps listed below.

1. From MS Bookshelf, select the book and click on the topic you want.

2. Click on EDIT.

3. Click on COPY PICTURE. If the "Copy Picture" option is greyed out or
   does not appear, then that picture is not printable.

This will copy the picture to the Clipboard. Now, it needs to be pasted
into a text file.

4. Task switch to the Program Manager and Double Click on the MS Works
   icon.  From the Startup Box, click on CREATE A NEW "WORD PROCESSOR".

5. Click on EDIT.

6. Click on PASTE.

7. Click on FILE, click on PRINT, and click on OK.
