SENSATION! (250-1651) Hints and Tips Faxback Doc. # 2879 1. Playing an audio CD. To play CD audio, go to the Media Player. Click on "Device", then on "CD Audio". The CD player should appear on the screen. If there is no "CD Audio" option under Device, close Windows and check the MPLAYER.INI file in the WINDOWS directory. The last line might read: CDAudio=0 This is not correct. The line should read: CDAudio=17, CD Audio When Windows is re-started, the Media Player should list "CD Audio" as an option under "Device". This is a problem Microsoft is aware of. Also check Control Panel under Drivers to make sure the [MCI] CD Audio driver is loaded. If not, CD Audio will not be available in Media Player. If the CD Audio option is available but will not play music, check the SBMixer to see that all volumes are at a sufficient level. If SBMixer is set correctly and the music will not play, check the cable from the CD-ROM drive to the sound board. 2. VoDaFax driver error (or Windows locks up after intro screen). Make sure serial port 2 is disabled so the FAX/modem can use COM 2. This driver is set to use COM 2. 3. Computer continues to play menu announcement after the user answers the phone. Run the SETMODEM utility from the StartUp disk and INCREASE the modem sensitivity (LOWER the number...19 should do). 4. After a call is ended, the off-hook icon continues to be displayed for more than 15 seconds. Run the SETMODEM utility from the StartUp disk and DECREASE the modem sensitivity (RAISE the number...should not need to go above 22). Any sound input or output device MUST be connected through the jacks on the front of the computer. We do not support any sound connections made to the jacks on the back of the computer (on the Sound Blaster card). If no sound output device is connected, all the sound (both computer sound and that coming through the Sound Blaster card) will come through the PC speaker. The volume controls on the front will control the volume. Once a sound output device is connected to the front, the PC speaker is disabled. NOTE: The volume control in back (on the Sound Blaster card) is DISABLED. You must use the volume controls on the front of the computer. The control on the back does not and will not control anything. If using the MMS 10 or other output device with RCA male plugs, use the 42-2475 adapter to connect to the front output jack. The adapter is RCA female to mini-stereo male. NOTE: If any output sound device (speakers, amplifier, etc) is connected to the line-out jack on the back of the computer, the volume controls on the front will have no effect on the volume on that device. The only way you will have any control over the volume, if connected in the back, is if the device has its own volume control. However, the PC speaker will remain enabled, and the volume controls on the front of the computer will control the sound from the PC speaker. EXAMPLE: A customer does not want the wires sticking out of the front of his computer, so he plugs his MMS-10 into the line-out jack on the back of the computer. Because nothing is plugged into the front, the sound will come out both the MMS-10 AND the PC speaker. The volume controls on front can turn the volume all the way down on the PC speaker. The sound volume may then be controlled by the MMS-10's own volume controls. (Make sure the Master Volume is turned up sufficiently in the SB Mixer) If there is a problem with the sound volume, check the SBMixer (in the Sound Blaster 16 Group) and make sure both the CD and the Master volume controls are turned up. CD Audio is played through the Media Player. Choose CD Audio under "Device". If there is no CD Audio option under "Device", close Windows and check the MPLAYER.INI file in the WINDOWS directory. The last line might read: CDAudio=0 This is not correct. We have already heard reports of systems where this line is incorrect. The line should read: CDAudio=17, CD Audio When Windows is re-started, the Media Player should list CD Audio as an option under "Device". In the SETUP program, the parallel port default is Bidirectional [N]. If the 25-1087 external floppy drive is added, the port does NOT need to be set to Bidirectional [Y]. The computer manual shows a diagram of the back of the computer, including all the connections. The line-in and line-out connections are shown in the correction positions on page 6. On page 66, the line-in and line-out are reversed. Any extra drives, whether hard drive, 3.5" floppy, or 5.25" floppy, must be added in the extra 5.25" bay (under the CD-ROM). (/all-12/15/94)
