The following info can be found in the "device manager" in Windows 95.
The AST could have come with 3 different modems:
     If it says you have a 300 or 600 series then the manufacturer is ATI.
     If it says you have a FDVSP modem then it is a Rockwell Bocha.
     If it says anything else then it is an ATT.

These are all 28.8 data/14.4 fax modems. I recommend using a generic init 
string such as:
     AT&F&C1&D2.
