2100/3100 (250-1624/1632) Using the SETRES Utility Faxback Doc. # 5508 The SETRES utility lets you: -Set the screen resolution -Select the display font size (large or small) -Select the number of simultaneous screen colors for some resolutions. The options that you select with SETRES depend on the maximum video resolution set by the computer setup utility (SETUPROM). For example, if you selected a maximum video resolution of 640 x 480 when you ran SETUPROM, only the 640 x 480 resolution is available when you run SETRES. You can use the CLMODE utility or SETUPROM to pick a higher maximum video resolution supported by your monitor. With a higher maximum video resolution set, more choices are available when you run SETRES. The SETRES utility requires that all the multi-resolution drivers exist in the c:\windows\system directory to work. If these drivers are not in this directory you will get an error mesage on the screen telling you that you must install the multi-resolution drivers when you click on the SETRES utility in the VGA Utilities icon. When reinstalling either of these computer's software, all these drivers may or may not be installed depending on the video driver and resolution you install. If you choose a driver and resolution that do not require one of the higher resolution drivers it may not copy all of them out. The drivers that must be in this directory are the following: 256_1024.drv 64K_800.drv 16_1280.drv 16M_640.drv These drivers can be found on Disk 2 of the Video Drivers disk that you create from the disk mastering. They are in the system directory. The easiest way to get these drivers installed is to copy the files. Follow these steps: 1. Exit Windows 2. At the c:\ prompt, type: cd \windows\system 3. Put Disk 2 of the VGA drivers in drive a. 4. Type: copy a:\system\*.drv c: This will copy the four files above. At this point you can go back into Windows and click on the VGA utilities icon and click on SETRES. It should now allow you to change the resolution of the video display according to the options available for the video driver loaded. Before running SETRES, verify that a multiple-resolution display driver is selected. From the Program Manager, open the Main group. Double click on the SETUP icon. The Windows SETUP dialog box is displayed. If a standard Windows display driver such as "VGA", is selected, you must change the driver. Click on the Options menu to make changes. Select "Change System Settings" and a driver by selecting the highest resolution supported by your hardware and the applications you will be using. Refer to your hardware and application documentation to determine resolution support. Close Windows SETUP. You can now run SETRES. Open the VGA Utilities group. Double click on the SETRES icon to start the utility. Make selections to set the screen resolution, font size, and/or number of simultaneous colors. (smc/tmc-07/14/95)
