To clear CMOS, remove the battery, wait 10 minutes, then replace the battery. REPLACING THE BATTERY Each time you turn on the computer, it accesses a battery-backed memory chip (CMOS RAM) that contains information about your computer configuration. The CMOS RAM battery also powers a real-time clock that keeps the system time and date. When the battery fails, the computer loses the configuration and the time and date information each time you turn off the computer. Warning: Improper handling of this lithium battery can be hazardous. Never recharge, disassemble, or heat the battery above 100 degrees C. (212 degrees F.). Never solder directly to the battery or expose the contents of the battery to water. Dispose of used batteries according to the manufacturer's instructions. Replace the battery with a battery of the same type. Caution: To remove and replace the battery you must remove the upper drive support, and the adapters in the two-slot area. Reinstalling the adapters requires careful cable reconnection and rerouting. To ensure proper reinstallation of the FAX/modem and audio adapter cables, see your computer dealer to have a replacement battery installed. To replace the battery: 1. Open the computer. Remove the upper drive support, and the adapters in the two-slot area. 2. Carefully lift the battery clip, and remove the old battery from the socket. 3. Insert the new battery, positive (+) side up. 4. Reinstall the adapters in the two-slot area, and the upper drive support. 5. Reconnect all cables 6. Close the computer. 7.
