8mm/VHS-C Camcorder Battery (230-0248) Operation Faxback Doc. # 15196 Conditioner/Charger The conditioner/charger has three sets of charging contacts - one is designed for Canon camcorder batteries, one is designed for Sony, Panasonic, JVC, or Sharp camcorder batteries, and one for Hitachi camcorder batteries. CAUTIONS: Non-rechargeable batteries do not fit into the conditioner/ charger's charging contacts. Do not try to connect a non- rechargeable battery because it might damage the conditioner/ charger. Do not try to charge non-rechargeable batteries because they could explode. NOTE: Radio Shack sells replacement batteries. CHARGING A RECHARGEABLE BATTERY 1. Place a battery onto the appropriate conditioner/charger's contacts, depending on the battery type. NOTE: The battery is properly charged only when its contacts correctly match the conditioner/charger contacts. To make sure of this, press the battery down and toward the conditioner/charger's contacts until it latches. -Install a battery from a Canon camcorder so its contacts match the "For Canon" conditioner/charger's contacts. -Install a battery from a Sony, Panasonic, JVC, Hitachi, or Sharp camcorder so its contacts match the "For Sony, Panasonic, JVC, Hitachi, or Sharp" conditioner/charger's contacts. 2. Connect power using either standard AC or your vehicle battery power (see "Connecting Power"). The green LED lights when the battery is charging. 3. When the green LED flashes, the battery is fully charged. Remove the battery from the conditioner/charger. DISCHARGING A RECHARGEABLE BATTERY To prevent your camcorder's battery from losing its ability to fully recharge, you must condition it (by discharging it) about once every 10 times you recharge it. To condition a rechargeable battery, place it onto the appropriate conditioner/charger's contacts, connect power, then press CONDITION to discharge the remaining power in the battery. The yellow LED lights when the battery is discharging. When discharging is completed, the conditioner/charger automatically starts charging, and the green LED lights. To switch to the charging mode before discharging is completed, remove the battery from the conditioner/charger and reinstall it. The conditioner/ charger automatically switches to the charging mode. USING STANDARD AC POWER You can power the conditioner/charger from standard AC power using the supplied AC adapter. CAUTIONS: The supplied AC adapter supplies 12 volts DC and delivers up to 1 amp. It has a center positive plug which properly fits the conditioner/charger's DC 12V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the conditioner/ charger or the adapter. Always plug the AC adapter into the conditioner/charger before you plug it into a standard AC outlet, and always unplug it from the outlet before you unplug it from the conditioner/ charger. To power the conditioner/charger from standard AC power, connect the supplied AC adapter's barrel plug to the conditioner/charger's DC 12V jack. Then plug the other end into a standard AC outlet. USING YOUR VEHICLE'S BATTERY POWER You can power the conditioner/charger from your vehicle's cigarette lighter socket using the supplied DC adapter. CAUTIONS: Your vehicle must have a 12-volt negative-ground electrical system. The supplied DC adapter supplies 12 volts DC and delivers up to 1 amp. It has a center positive plug which properly fits the conditioner/charger's DC 12V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the conditioner/ charger or the adapter. Always plug the DC adapter into the conditioner/charger before you plug it into the cigarette-lighter socket, and always unplug it from the socket before you unplug it from the conditioner/charger. Follow these steps to power the conditioner/charger from your vehicle's battery. 1. Plug the small end of the supplied DC adapter cable into the conditioner/charger's DC 12V jack. 2.
