All Band, Glass-Mount Mobile Scanner Antenna (200-0011) Installation Faxback Doc. # 17324 CAUTION: Do not remove the paper backing from the coupler box or antenna foot until the instructions specifically say to do so. Once you attach either part to the glass, it is very difficult to remove. CHOOSING A MOUNTING LOCATION Usually, the top center of the back windshield is the best location for the antenna. However, you can mount it anywhere along the top of a window, provided the location meets the following requirements. The antenna foot and coupler box: Must not block the driver's vision. Must not block the windshield wiper's paths. Must be clear of other antennas. Must be at least 1 1/2 inches from the edge of the glass. Also, the middle sections of the antenna foot and coupler box should not cover any defroster wires. NOTES: If your windshield has a factory-tinted border, you can mount the antenna over this border. However, if the window tinting is a plastic film applied to the glass, you must cut a hole in the film and mount the antenna foot directly on the glass. Some windshields contain metallic sunscreening that can greatly reduce the antenna's performance. If you are not sure whether a material installed in the windshield or applied to it contains metal, consult your vehicle's dealer. Preparing the Glass After you confirm that the mounting location meets the mounting requirements, thoroughly clean the glass on the inside and outside mounting surfaces with the supplied alcohol swabs. Then let the surface air-dry. NOTE: The ideal installation air and surface temperature is 70 - 90 degrees F. Do not install the antenna if the temperature is below 50 degrees F. MOUNTING THE COUPLER BOX AND ANTENNA FOOT Follow these steps to mount the coupler box and antenna foot. 1. Remove the paper backing from the coupler box. CAUTION: The adhesive sticks instantly upon contact. 2. On the inside of the vehicle, carefully position the coupler box so its connector is to the right or left of and its top edge is parallel to the top of the window (a minimum of 1 1/2 inches from the edge). CAUTION: Do not mount the antenna foot or coupler box so their middle sections cover any defroster wires. Doing so reduces the antenna's performance. 3. Press the coupler box firmly against the glass for several seconds. Then apply pressure around the box's outer edges. 4. Attach the antenna to the antenna foot. Then loosen the screw in the antenna foot, using the supplied Allen wrench. 5. Without removing the antenna foot's paper covering, position the foot's base on the outer mounting surface (centered over the coupler box). Then position the antenna so it is vertical, and tighten the antenna foot's screw. NOTE: If the antenna is not vertical, its effectiveness is reduced. 6. Remove the paper backing from the antenna foot. CAUTION: The adhesive sticks instantly upon contact. 7. Carefully center the antenna foot's base so it is directly opposite the coupler box. Then firmly press the antenna foot against the glass for several seconds, being sure all four edges of the antenna foot firmly adhere to the glass. CONNECTING THE ANTENNA TO THE SCANNER After you mount the coupler box and antenna foot, follow these steps to connect the antenna to the scanner. 1. Route the coaxial cable so it does not interfere with passengers or the operation of the vehicle. 2. Connect the other end of the coaxial cable to the antenna terminal on the scanner.
