TRC-463 (210-1558) Troubleshooting Faxback Doc. # 7073 If the CB is not working as it should, refer to the following chart to see if you can eliminate the problem. If the problem persists, take the CB to the local Radio Shack store for assistance. ┌────────────┬──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐ │SYMPTOM │ SOLUTION │ ├────────────┼──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ │Trouble │Be sure OFF/VOLUME is turned up. │ │receiving │ │ │ │Be sure SQUELCH is adjusted properly. │ │ │ │ │ │Be sure the CB is switched to an operating channel. │ │ │ │ │ │Check the antenna for a good connection. │ ├────────────┼──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ │Trouble │Be sure the transmission cable is securely connect to the │ │transmitting│12-volt DC car adapter. │ │ │ │ │ │Be sure the antenna is fully extended. │ │ │ │ │ │Be sure all connections are secure and free of corrosion. │ │ │ │ │ │Be sure you are fully pressing TALK. │ │ │ │ ├────────────┼──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ │CB does not │Check the 12-Volt DC car adapter and in-line fuse (replace│ │work at all │only with an identical 2-amp fuse). │ └────────────┴──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘ REDUCING NOISE The ANL (Automatic Noise Limiting) circuit helps keep background noise to a minimum. However, strong sources such as your vehicle's ignition, another radio, or spark plugs may be more than the circuit can compensate for. If one operates the TRC-463 with the vehicles engine off, you should not have any problems with noise. IF you use the CB with the engine on, you can determine the source of the noise by turning off the engine and operating the CB with the ignition set to ACC. If most or all of the noise goes away, the problem is in your vehicle's ignition or electrical system. Here are a few hints to help you reduce or eliminate such noise: -Replace old ignition wires with new, high-voltage, noise suppression wires. -Install noise suppressors on the spark plugs, or install new spark plugs that have built-in suppressors. -If problems persist, check your alternator/generator and regulator guages. Noise from these sources can be reduced or eliminated using bypass capacitors at the various output voltage points. The local Radio Shack store has a wide selection of noise suppression accessories. Replacing the Fuse Twist open the fuse holder and install a 2-amp fuse NOTE: do not use a fuse with a rating higher than 2 amps. (smc-02/24/94)
