Sneaker II (600-4135) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 15190 INSTALLING THE BATTERIES The Sneaker II requires eight AA batteries (not supplied) and the transmitter requires one 9-volt battery (not supplied). You can use alkaline batteries (Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552) or rechargeable nickel- cadmium batteries for the Sneaker II, you also need a battery charger. 1. Before loading the batteries, set the OFF/ON switch on the top of the Sneaker II to OFF. 2. Turn the battery compartment cover's latch in the direction of the arrow. Then remove the cover. 3. Insert eight AA cell batteries (Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552) in the Sneaker II as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the compartment. 4. Replace the cover and close the latch. Transmitter 1. Set the OFF/ON switch on the top of the Sneaker II to OFF. 2. Press down on the transmitter's battery compartment cover and slide it off in the direction of the arrow. 3. Install one 9-volt battery (Cat. No. 23-553) as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked on the bottom of the compartment. 4. Replace the cover. USING OPTIONAL NICKEL-CADMIUM BATTERIES You can also operate the Sneaker II with rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries such as Cat. No. 23-125. This requires a charger, such as Cat. No. 21-516. CAUTION: The battery charger must supply 18 volts, its center tip must be set to positive, it must deliver at least 50 milliamps, and its plug must correctly fit the Sneaker II's charging jack. Using a battery charger that does not meet these requirements could seriously damage the Sneaker II, the batteries, or the battery charger. Charge the batteries before use. You can charge them in the Sneaker II without removing them. Be sure the ON/OFF switch on the top of the Sneaker II is set to OFF. Then plug the charger's barrel plug into the recharging jack on the bottom of the Sneaker II. Charge the batteries for 14 to 16 hours. Do not overcharge them. You can reduce useful battery life if you overcharge. CAUTION: Never mix nickel-cadmium batteries with other batteries such as alkaline batteries, or with nickel cadmium batteries of different capacities. IMPORTANT: The Sneaker II is capable of using rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries. At the end of the batteries' useful life, they must be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact your local, county, or state hazardous waste management authorities for information on recycling or disposal programs in your area. Some options that might be available are: municipal curbside collection, drop-off boxes at retailers, recycling collection centers, and mail-back programs. (LB/all-05/08/95)
