Radio-Controlled Hot (600-4127A) Battery Faxback Doc. # 15652 Machine POWERING THE HOT MACHINE CAUTIONS: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type. Do not mix rechargeable batteries of different capacities. Dispose of batteries properly; do not bury or burn them. If the Hot Machine will not be used for several days, take out the batteries. INSTALLING THE HOT MACHINE'S BATTERIES To power the Hot Machine, you need eight rechargeable nickel-cadmium AA batteries (such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-125 and one alkaline 9-volt battery (such as Cat. No. 23-126). NOTE: You must charge the nickel-cadmium batteries before using them (see "Charging Nickel-Cadmium Batteries"). Follow these steps to install batteries in the Hot Machine. 1. Be sure the Hot Machine's ON/OFF switch is set to OFF. 2. Use a coin to rotate the two latches counterclockwise, then lift the battery compartment cover. 3. Install one 9-volt battery and eight AA batteries in the battery compartment, as indicated by the polarity symbols ( + and -) inside the compartment. 4. Replace the cover. Then rotate the latches clockwise to secure the cover. If the Hot Machine runs slowly or not at all, recharge its batteries. CHARGING NICKEL-CADMIUM BATTERIES You must charge rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries before you can use them to power the Hot Machine. To charge them, you need a battery charger, such as Cat. No. 21-516. WARNING: Do not try to recharge alkaline or other non-rechargeable batteries. They might explode. CAUTION: The battery charger must supply 18 volts, its center tip must be set to positive, it must deliver at least 50 milliamps, and its plug must correctly fit the Hot Machine's recharging jack. The recommended charger meets these requirements. Using a battery charger that does not meet these requirements could damage the Hot Machine or the battery charger. Follow these steps to charge the batteries while they are in the Hot Machine. 1. Be sure the Hot Machine's ON/OFF switch is set to OFF. 2. Insert the charger's barrel plug into the Hot Machine's charging jack. 3. Plug the charger's other end into a standard AC outlet. 4. Charge the batteries for 14 to 16 hours. CAUTION: Charging the batteries for longer than 16 hours can damage them. 5. Unplug the charger from the AC outlet first. Then unplug it from the charging jack. NOTE: Let the nickel-cadmium batteries fully discharge once in a while before you recharge them. IMPORTANT: The Hot Machine uses rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries. At the end of the batteries' useful life, they must be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact your local, county, or state hazardous waste management authorities for information on recycling or disposal programs in your area. Some options that might be available are: municipal curb-side collection, drop- off boxes at retailers, recycling collection centers, and mail- back programs. INSTALLING THE TRANSMITTER'S BATTERY You need one 9-volt battery for the transmitter. We recommend an alkaline battery, such as Cat. No. 23-553. Follow these steps to install the transmitter's battery. 1. Lift the battery compartment cover's tab. The cover pops off. 2. Install the battery in the compartment, as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -). 3. Replace the cover and snap it shut. If the Hot Machine's motor runs but the Hot Machine will not move, replace the transmitter's battery. (/all-06/13/95)
