AFX-150 (430-1240) Installation Faxback Doc. # 14116 SETTING THE RING SELECTOR SWITCH You can set the fax switch's ring selector switch so that the fax switch automatically directs calls to the fax machines after 3, 5, or 7 rings. This gives you time to answer the call before it is directed to the fax machine. For example, if you set the ring selector switch to respond after the third ring, the fax switch waits for you (or your answering machine) to answer the call within 3 rings. If the call is not answered within 3 rings, the fax switch directs the call to the fax machine. You can also set the ring selector switch to the infinite setting to prevent the fax switch from automatically directing any call to the fax machine. To set the ring selector switch, move the dip switches to the appropriate positions, as follows: SWITCH 1 2 3 Rings IN OUT 5 Rings OUT IN 7 Rings IN IN Infinite OUT OUT Notes: If you set the ring selector switch to any setting other than the infinite setting, your answering machine's remote answer-on function might not work. Before you change the ring selector switch setting, disconnect the AC adapter from the fax switch's DC12V jack. Then, reconnect the adapter. INSTALLING THE FAX SWITCH Follow these steps to install your fax switch. 1. Plug your fax machine's modular plug into the fax switch's FAX jack. 2. Plug the fax switch's modular cord into a modular (RJ11C) telephone line jack. NOTE: If your telephone line does not end in a modular jack, contact your local Radio Shack store or telephone company. The telephone company can charge you for the installation of the necessary jacks. The telephone company will ask you the USO number of the jack to be installed. This number is RJ11C. 3. Plug the AC adapter's small end into the fax switch's DC 12V jack. Then, plug the adapter's other end into a standard 120 volt AC power outlet. The fax switch's POWER ON/BUSY indicator lights and the fax switch performs a self-test by ringing the fax machine two times. 4. Route the AC adapter's cord through the fax switch' strain-relief. 5. If you want to connect an answering machine to the fax switch, connect the answering machine's modular plug to the fax switch's ANS jack. 6. If desired, mount the fax switch on a standard modular wall plate or directly on a wall using two screws (not supplied). (TK/all-03/13/95)
