CP 4600 (170-1067) Operation Faxback Doc. # 15095 NOTE: You cannot use your CP 4600 without proper authorization. POWER ON/OFF To turn your CP 4600 on, press and hold PWR for more than 2 seconds. When the phone turns on, you will see a test of the LCD Display. The CP 4600 will perform an internal self-test. If it has been programmed, you will see a "Power On Message" for about 2 seconds. To turn the CP 4600 off, press and hold PWR until you hear the "Power Off" beep tone. STANDBY MODE After the "Power On Message", you'll see the "NO SERVICE" message until the phone establishes contact with your system. If the Signal Strength Indicator "S" is blinking, you are outside your cellular service area. Try changing your location. Or, you may need to select a different type of service. NOTE: When the Battery Pack voltage is low, the Battery Status Indicator (B.) blinks several times. Then the "RECHARGE BATTERY" message will be displayed. Turn the CP 4600 off, and recharge the Battery Pack. After the phone establishes contact with your service, you'll see the "Standby" display. You're now ready to receive or place calls. LOCK MODE If the CP 4600 is in either Full or Half Lock, the appropriate message will be displayed. MUTE During a phone call you've received or placed, you can use the Mute function to prevent the other party from hearing anything on your end. Simply press MUTE. The display shows that the CP 4600 microphone is disabled. To continue the conversation, press MUTE again. Mute is automatically disabled when you end the call. MONITOR There may be times when you are dialing or on a call, when you want to put the phone down, but still hear the other party. Use the Monitor function for this. Press MON either before you dial, or during a call. The display will indicate you are in the Monitor mode. In the Monitor Mode you can hear the other party through the Monitor Speaker. The CP 4600 microphone is disabled in Monitor Mode, so the other party will not hear you. Press MON again to return to normal operation. RECEIVING AND PLACING CALLS Receiving a Call When you receive an incoming call, the Alert Tone beeps and you'll see the "CALL" message. To answer the call, press any key except PWR, /\, or \/. You'll see "INUSE" on the display. Ending a Call To end a call, press END. Placing a Call There are 4 ways to place a call with the CP 4600: A. Manually B. Last Number Redial C. Speed Dialing with Memory D. Recalling Numbers Stored in Memory A. MANUALLY PLACING A CALL Enter the digits of the phone number with the numeric keys as you would with any telephone. As you enter each digit, it appears on the display. NOTE: The LCD can display only 15 digits at a time. As you enter more digits, the phone number scrolls off the left side of the LCD. To see numbers that have scrolled off the LCD to the left, press RCL # to scroll one digit to the right. To scroll more than one digit to the right, press RCL # and hold # until you have scrolled as far as you want. To see numbers that have scrolled off the LCD to the right, press RCL * to scroll one digit to the left. To scroll more than one digit to the left, press RCL * and hold * until you have scrolled as far as you want. If you make a mistake entering the number, press CLR to erase the last digit entered. You can press CLR as many times as you need to erase the wrong digits. You can also press and hold CLR for more than 1.5 seconds to erase the entire number. When the beep tone stops, all entered digits have been erased. When you have entered the desired number, press SEND. You'll see "INUSE" displayed with the number. Automatic Retry If you place a call and hear no sound after you press SEND, your system is busy (not necessarily the called number) and the call did not go through. Your CP 4600 will automatically retry the call up to 9 times. The LCD will show the number of the retry, with a short beep tone. You can stop Automatic Retry at any time by pressing END. NOTE: Even though the LCD displays "INUSE" you will not be charged for any air time until the call goes through. B. LAST NUMBER REDIAL The last number called is stored in the Last Number Buffer. To redial the number, press SEND before you press any other key. If you want to check the number before redialing, press RCL 0 0. C. SPEED DIALING WITH MEMORY Speed dialing is the quickest way to recall and dial a telephone number. 1. If you know the Memory Location of the number you're calling, press the two digit code for the Memory Location (e.g. 1 2). NOTE: For memory locations 01-09, just press 1-9. 2. Press SEND. If the Memory Location has a number stored, and is not locked, the phone will automatically dial the number. 3. If the Memory Location is locked, the phone will not dial. a. Press STO. b. Enter the Lock Code. You will not hear any key tones as you enter the Code, and you will not see the actual digits entered. NOTES: The factory pre-set code is 0 1 2 3. If you enter the wrong Code, the memory Location will not be unlocked. Go back to Step 3a. c. As soon as you enter the last digit of the Code correctly, the phone dials the number. If a pause has been programmed in the stored number, the phone dials only up to the pause, and then stops. To continue the dialing sequence from that point, press SEND. This function is useful when multiple numbers must be dialed for certain access codes. 4. To use numeric data stored in memory during a call (such as credit card numbers, access codes, or bank-by-phone identification), press RCL and the two digit code of the memory location (e.g.2 5) during your phone call. As soon as the second memory location digit is pressed, the stored numbers are sent. SEARCHING FOR NUMBERS IN MEMORY You can search for numbers stored in Memory three ways: A. Using Recall (RCL) B. Using Numeric Search C. Using Alpha Search A. USING RECALL Press RCL. Now press /\ to scroll forward, or \/ to scroll backward through the Memory Locations until you find the number you need. If you press and hold /\ or \/ for more than 1.5 seconds, the memory will begin scrolling automatically. To stop the scrolling, press any key. You can also jump to a section of memory by pressing RCL followed by a Memory Location. For example, press RCL 2 0 to jump directly to Memory Location 20. You can then scroll through memory from there. B. NUMERIC SEARCH 1. Press MENU RCL. The unit goes directly to the Numeric Search Menu. 2. Press STO to enter Numeric Search. 3. Enter from 3 to 8 digits to identify the phone number you're searching for. 4. Press RCL or \/ or /\ to begin the search. 5. After the Numeric Search stops at the first number matching the digits you entered, press \/ to go to the next match, or /\ to go to the previous match. If you press and hold \/ or /\ for more than 1.5 seconds, the memory will begin scrolling automatically. To stop the scrolling, press any key. C. ALPHA SEARCH 1. Press MENU RCL ALPHA. The unit goes directly to the Alpha Search Menu. 2. Press STO to enter Alpha Search. 3. Enter from 1 to 8 letters to identify the name you're searching for. 4. Press RCL or \/ to search memory locations from 01 through 99, or /\ to search from location 99 through 01. 5. After the Alpha Search stops at the first name matching the letters you entered, press \/ to go to the next match, or /\ to go to the previous match. If you press and hold /\ or \/ for more than 1.5 seconds, the memory will begin scrolling automatically. To stop the scrolling, press any key. ENTERING ALPHABETIC DATA You'll notice that the keys from 1 to 9 have the letters of the alphabet on them. These keys, plus the 0 key are used to store and retrieve alphabetic information in Memory when you are in the Alpha Mode. For example, to enter the letter I, press 5 three times. To enter the letter E press 3 twice, and so on. After you enter a letter, wait 2 seconds for the cursor to advance to the next position. Or, press # to move the cursor immediately. To erase a letter you've just entered, press CLR. Example: To enter the name "JACK", press: a. 5 # b. 2 # c. 2 2 2 # d. 5 5 NOTE: You can pause 2 seconds after entering each letter instead of pressing #. STORING NUMBERS AND LETTERS IN MEMORY Each Memory Location (01-99) can hold up to 32 numeric digits and 16 alpha letters. Use the directions below to store numeric or alpha data. NOTE: If you try to store information in a Memory Location that's locked, you will need to unlock that location before you can complete the store function. 1. Press STO. 2. Enter the Lock Code. You will not hear any key tones as you enter the Code, and you will not see the actual digits entered. NOTE: The factory pre-set code is 0 1 2 3. 3. If there is information already stored in a memory location, you will be asked if you want to replace it with the new information. 4. If you really want to replace the information, press STO. To Enter Numeric Information: 1. Enter the digits to be stored. 2. Press STO followed by the Memory Location. For example, if you were storing digits in Memory Location 44, press STO 4 4. 3. If the information has been stored successfully, you'll see the "STORED" display. If you don't get "STORED", try it again. To Enter Alpha Information: 1. Press ALPHA. 2. Enter the letters to be stored, using the techniques explained under Entering Alphabetic Data. 3. Press STO followed by the Memory Location. For example, if you were storing letters in Memory Location 44, press STO 4 4. 4. If the information has been stored successfully, you'll see the "STORED" display. (ALL-05/02/95)
