The telephone will carry out a short self-test, briefly displaying a message (a number or name, as programmed by your dealer). When the "ON" indicator appears on the display, the telephone is ready for use. If the "NO SVC" indicator appears then you are probably outside the cellular coverage area, and you will not be able to make or receive any calls. NOTE: You can make and receive calls only when the telephone is switched on. MAKING A CALL Key-in the number (include the area code, even if you are making a local call); the number will appear on the display. Press SEND. The "IN USE" symbol appears on the display, the number clears from the display, and a tone is heard. Wait for the call to be answered, then speak. The elapsed call time is displayed throughout the call (eg, "0115" indicates 1 minutes and 15 seconds). Call time gives approximate indication, and may not reflect actual network usage. NOTE: The signal strength, as indicated by the "s" indicator, must be adequate; if it is too low, move to a better position. If the message "No Service" appears, you are outside the cellular coverage area. If the message "Locked" appears, your telephone has been locked. You can still make emergency calls, and calls to the number in memory location 38, when the telephone is locked. CORRECTING DIALING MISTAKES Press CLR to clear the last digit, or press and hold CLR to clear the whole display. ENDING A CALL Press END. RECEIVING A CALL When there is an incoming call, the ringing tone sounds and the "Call" message flashes on the display. If the ringing tone has been switched off (ie, using the "Ring Volume" menu function) the keyboard and display lights will flash instead, and only a short beep will be heard. Press any key except PWR, to answer the call. The elapsed call time is displayed throughout the call (eg "0115" indicates 1 minute and 15 seconds). (Call timer gives approximate indication, and may not reflect actual network usage). If you do not answer the call, the "Call" message will remain on the display. Press any key to clear the message. If the keyboard is locked, press CLR to clear the message. NOTE: The "any key (except PWR) answer" feature is activated immediately when an incoming call is received: should you be using the keyboard when an incoming call is received (eg, keying-in a number or recalling a memory location), the first keypress after the first ring will answer the call. SETTING THE EARPIECE VOLUME Press /\ (to increase) or \/ (to decrease). The level selected is shown by the volume indicator ("v"). LAST NUMBER REDIAL Ensure that the display is clear (Press and hold CLR to clear the display) then press SEND. The last number you called will appear on the display (even if the telephone has been switched off since making the call), and the number will be dialed automatically. Last number redial is also available using the "Recall Last" menu function. SWITCHING OFF Press and hold PWR until confirmation tone, or until display clears. THE MENU FACILITY The menu allows you to access any of the menu functions; these are listed on the next page. You may access any function, check its current setting (which is displayed first when the function is accessed), or change the setting (when applicable). The menu functions can be accessed, either, by "scrolling" or by the "shortcut method". To access by scrolling: Press F. the message "Use <> To View" is displayed. Press /\ or \/ to reach the function required, then Press STO. To change the setting (if applicable), press /\ or \/ to display the setting required, then press STO to select it. To access by shortcut method: Press F, then the number of the function required (0 to 8); eg, to select Call Timers, Press F 3. The selected function number is shown in the right-hand corner of the display. To change the setting (if applicable), press /\ or \/ to display the setting required, then press STO to select it.
