TAD-1000 (430-0740) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 15252 SETTING THE CLOCK, CALENDAR, RECORD TIME, AND REMOTE CODE After connecting the TAD to the telephone line and to AC power, follow these steps to set the clock, calendar, record time, and remote operation security code. NOTES: Record time is the total recording time available for all incoming messages and memos. You can select 14 or 17 minutes. If you select 14 minutes, the sound quality of messages will be slightly better when played back. If you wait more than 30 seconds to press a button while entering information, the TAD saves all settings you entered up to that point and says the time and date. You must start again at Step 1 to enter additional information. 1. Press SET CODE/DATE. The TAD says "Time of day: Set hour" and announces the current setting. 2. Press NEXT/YES to advance the hour or REPEAT to scroll backward. 3. Press SET CODE/DATE to move to the next setting, or press STOP/NO to stop entering settings and save what you entered. When the TAD tells you to set the minutes, month, date, day, record time, and each digit of the remote operation security code, press NEXT/YES or REPEAT to change the setting. NOTES: If you do not select a remote operation security code, the TAD uses the default, 11. If you press STOP/NO before trying to change both remote security digits, the code does not change. 4. After you enter the last digit of the remote operation security code, press SET CODE/DATE. The TAD announces the code and the set time and date. To hear the current time and date, press STOP/NO when the TAD is not set to answer calls. RECORDING THE OUTGOING ANNOUNCEMENT Before you set the TAD to answer calls, you must record the announcement callers will hear when the TAD answers their calls. The announcement can be up to one minute long. We recommend you write down your announcement before recording it. If you plan to record callers' messages, ask for the caller's name, phone number, and message. Important Hints: Do not tell callers that you are not home. Instead, say that you cannot come to the phone right now. Since the TAD can receive and save messages for up to four different users, the outgoing announcement should explain how to leave a message for a particular person. For example: "You have reached the Jones residence. We are unable to come to the phone right now, but you may press: one to leave a message for John, two to leave a message for Mary, three to leave a message for Susan, or just wait for the beep, then leave your message." If you are recording an announcement for a business, you might use "Hello! You have reached XYZ company. To leave a message for our Sales Department, press one; for Manufacturing, press two; for Customer Service, press three. Or, you can leave a message after the beep." Follow these steps to record your outgoing announcement. 1. Press and hold ANNOUNCE until the TAD says, "Record announcement," and then beeps. 2. Release ANNOUNCE and record your announcement. For the clearest sound, speak into the microphone from about 18 inches away. The display starts counting from 00 to 60 (seconds). 3. When you finish the announcement, press STOP/NO. NOTE: You can record a new announcement at any time. However, if memory is full, you must erase messages before recording the announcement (see "Erasing Messages). CHECKING THE OUTGOING ANNOUNCEMENT To play the outgoing announcement, press and release ANNOUNCE and adjust VOLUME on the side of the TAD. The TAD plays the announcement. NOTE: If you press ANNOUNCE for more than 2 seconds, the TAD records a new outgoing announcement. CHOOSING THE NUMBER OF RINGS The ANSWER switch on the TAD's left side selects how many times the phone will ring before the TAD answers the call. Set this switch before you set the TAD to answer calls. TOL S (Toll Saver) - Use this setting when you will be calling by long- distance to hear your messages. If there are new messages, the TAD answers in about two rings. If you have no new messages, the TAD waits about four rings to answer. This lets you hang up before the TAD answers to avoid unnecessary fees. DEL (Delayed Answer) - The TAD answers in about four rings. This gives you time to answer calls before the TAD does. IMM (Immediate Answer) - The TAD answers in about two rings. This saves the caller from having to wait several rings. This setting is also useful for screening calls. SETTING THE INCOMING MESSAGE SWITCH Set the ICM (Incoming Message) switch on the TAD's left side before setting the TAD to answer calls. The ICM switch selects whether or not the TAD will record messages, and the maximum length of the messages. ANN ONLY - Sets the TAD to play your outgoing announcement only, without recording messages. 2 MIN - Sets the TAD to record messages and sets the maximum length of the caller's message to 2 minutes. 30 SEC - Sets the TAD to record messages and sets the maximum length of the caller's message to 30 seconds.
