We don't expect you to have problems with your TAD.  But, if you do, refer
to the following problem-solving information to find possible causes and
remedies.  If you try all of these remedies and still have problems,
contact your local Radio Shack store for assistance.

    Problem                       Cause and Remedy

The TAD records a        Cause:  The caller hung up without leaving a
dial tone, a siren,              message or without using the maximum
beeping, or an                   time and your local telephone company
operator's voice                 does not send out CPC signals.
instead of a
caller's message.        Remedy: Press NEXT/YES to play the next message.

The TAD does not         Cause:  The phone line is not properly connected.
answer calls.
                         Remedy: Check all phone line connections.

                         Cause:  The TAD is not plugged into the wall
                                 outlet.

                         Remedy: Make sure the AC adapter is properly
                                 connected to the TAD.

                         Cause:  There is not enough free memory to record
                                 a message.

                         Remedy: Erase messages.

                         Cause:  The TAD is not set to answer calls.

                         Remedy: Press ANSWER.

The outgoing             Cause:  You were too close to the microphone
announcement is                  or you spoke too loudly when recording
distorted                        your announcement.

                         Remedy: Re-record the announcement, speaking in a
                                 moderate tone of voice about 18 inches
                                 from the microphone.

                         Cause:  There was too much background noise in
                                 the room when you recorded the
                                 announcement.

                         Remedy: Re-record the announcement.

The TAD does not         Cause:  You entered an incorrect remote
respond to remote                operation security code.

                         Remedy: Carefully re-enter your remote operation
                                 security code.  If the TAD fails to
                                 respond, the security code might have
                                 reset to the default code.  Enter the
                                 default remote operation security code
                                 (11).

                         Cause:  AC power failure.

                         Remedy: Make sure that AC power is restored
                                 and the DC 9V adapter is properly
                                 connected to the TAD (see "Connecting the
                                 AC Adapter").

The TAD sounds           Cause:  The OGM is too short to allow remote
three short beeps                access 
when you access it
by remote.               Remedy: Record a new OGM at least 2 seconds long
                                 at the TAD.

                         Cause:  The TAD's memory is full.

                         Remedy: Erase messages at the TAD.

The battery light        Remedy: Press NEXT/YES (after replacing the
blinks all the time              batteries.
