RECORDING AN OUTGOING MESSAGE (OGM) Before you can set the TAD to answer calls, you must record the outgoing message (OGM) the caller hears when the TAD answers a call. In your OGM, ask for the caller's name, phone number, and a message. Warning: To help protect your home or office from theft, do not tell callers that you are away. Instead, say that you cannot come to the phone. The first time you plug in the TAD's AC power adapter, the MESSAGE indicator flashes to show that no OGM is recorded. Follow these steps to record the OGM. 1. Open the cassette compartment. 2. Press and hold down OGM until the MESSAGE indicator lights steadily and the TAD beeps. 3. Record your OGM. Speak in a strong voice from about 16 inches away from the microphone. Your OGM records on the built-in RAM chip. The tape remains still. 4. When you finish recording, press ERASE/STOP. The TAD plays back the OGM. Adjust VOLUME so you can hear it. Then the TAD records it on the tape. (The TAD uses this back-up OGM in case the powers fails. For details, see "Power Failure.") After the TAD plays the OGM the second time, the MESSAGE indicator lights steadily and the TAD is set to answer messages. When the TAD answers a call, the caller hears the OGM and a beep. After the beep, the TAD records the caller's message. To change the OGM, press ANSWER ON/OFF so the MESSAGE indicator turns off. Then repeat the above steps. To check the OGM, press and release OGM. The OGM plays. (llg/all-06/26/95)
