TAD-540 (430-0713) Operation Faxback Doc. # 16000 THE OUTGOING ANNOUNCEMENT RECORDING THE OUTGOING ANNOUNCEMENT Before you record the outgoing announcement, it is suggested that you write down and practice speaking the announcement. Ask for the caller's name, phone number, and message. WARNING: Do not tell callers that you are not home. Instead, say that you cannot come to the phone right now. You can also set the TAD to make an announcement only, without recording messages. This is useful for announcing information about an upcoming event. Be sure the announcement makes it clear that the caller cannot leave a message. Follow these steps to record your outgoing announcement: 1. Press ANNOUNCE RECORD (located under the cassette compartment door). The TAD says "Record announcement" the MEMO indicator flashes, and the TAD beeps. 2. After the beep, speak in a normal voice about 12 inches from the microphone (located on the front of the TAD). 3. When you finish speaking, press STOP/TIME. The MEMO indicator flashes while the tape rewinds. Then the indicator turns off. NOTES: You can only record an outgoing announcement when the TAD is set not to answer calls. If the tape ends before you finish recording, four beeps sound, the TAD says, "Error. Announcement tape," the tape rewinds, and the lower row of indicators flashes. If this happens, press STOP/TIME. Then begin again at Step 1. If there is a pause of 2 seconds or more in the announcement, the TAD stops at the pause during playback and rewinds the tape. If this happens, re-record the announcement without the pause. CHECKING THE OUTGOING ANNOUNCEMENT 1. Set INCOMING MESSAGE (on the right side of the TAD) to ANN ONLY. 2. Press PLAY. The PLAY indicator flashes and then lights steadily. The TAD says "Play announcement" and plays the announcement. Adjust VOLUME as desired. SETTING THE SECURITY CODE: 1. Press SET TIME/DATE/REMOTE CODE. The TAD prompts you for the Hours, Minutes, etc. 2. Press FAST-F or REWIND to advance or decrease the number. 3. Press SET to set the current option. 4. Repeat steps 1 and 2 as needed. REMOTE CONTROL OPERATION You can control the TAD from any touch-tone phone, or from any rotary phone using a pocket tone dialer (not supplied). REMOTE ANSWER ON If the TAD is connected to power, you can use any phone to set the TAD to answer calls. Call the TAD and let the phone ring until the TAD answers (about one minute). When the TAD answers, hang up the phone, or press *, enter the remote code and enter a command. NOTE: If the incoming message tape is full, the TAD says "Error. End of tape." and waits 10 seconds for a remote command. The TAD cannot record additional messages until you play all new messages. CALLING THE TAD Follow these steps to call the TAD by remote. 1. Dial your phone number. If the TAD has recorded at least one message, it answers on the first or second ring (if you set ANSWER to TOL S). 2. During the announcement, press *. The TAD says, "Please enter code." 3. Enter the remote code you set during the setup procedure. Press each key within 10 seconds of the previous entry and make each key press at least 1/2 second long. The TAD announces the number of calls and messages, rewinds, and plays any new messages. After the last message, the TAD says, "End of messages. Enter command or star for help." Press * for list of remote commands or press the digit for the desired command. NOTES: If you enter an incorrect mode, the TAD says, "First error." Enter the correct code within 10 seconds. If the second entry is incorrect , the TAD says, "Second error." Enter the correct code within 10 seconds. If the third entry is incorrect, the TAD says, "Third error," completes the announcement sounds a long beep, and hangs up. If the announcement ends before you correctly enter the code, the TAD records your call as an incoming message. If you enter the correct code, but the TAD functions as though the code were incorrect, the code might have reset to the default (111) because of the long power failure. Enter (111) as the security code. If this works, replace the backup battery and reset the security code. If the incoming message tape is full when you call the TAD, the TAD sounds a long beep and says , "End of tape. Please enter code." After each operation, the TAD says, "Enter command." If you do not enter a command within 10 seconds, the TAD hangs up. To end remote operation, hang up the phone. The TAD resets to answer calls (unless you set it not to answer calls). USING REMOTE COMMANDS Use the following remote commands for remote operation. * -- Stop (or to hear the remote control command menu when the TAD is stopped) Press * to stop the current function. When the TAD is stopped, press * to hear the control command menu. 1 -- Rewind Press 1 to rewind the tape. The TAD says, "Rewind" and rewinds to the beginning of any new messages. Then it says, "Enter command," and waits 10 seconds for the next command." Press 1 again to rewind to the beginning of the tape. 2 -- Play Press 2 to play messages. The TAD says, "Play messages" and plays the incoming message tape from its current position. After the last message plays, playback stops and the TAD says, "Enter command" and waits 10 seconds for the next command. If the tape reaches the end during playback, the TAD stops, sounds a long beep, and says, "End of tape." Then the TAD resets to answer calls. 3 -- Fast-forward Press 3 to fast-forward the incoming message tape. The TAD says, "Forward." The tape automatically stops at the end of the last new message. 4 -- Memo Record Press 4 to record a memo. The TAD says, "record memo" and then beeps. Speak into the phone to record the memo. The TAD records for 30 seconds, or until you press *. At the end of recording, the TAD says, "End of memo. Enter command." 5 -- Announcement Playback Press 5 to listen to the outgoing announcement. The TAD says "Play announcement" and plays the announcement. After the announcement plays, the TAD says, "Enter command" and waits 10 seconds for the next command. 6 -- Announcement Record Press 6 to record a new outgoing announcement. The TAD rewinds the outgoing announcement tape to the beginning, says, "Record announcement," and sounds a beep. After the beep, speak into the phone. Press * when you finish recording. NOTE: If the outgoing announcement tape reaches the end before you press * during recording, the TAD beeps once and resets. 7 -- Position the Incoming Message Tape to the Beginning of the Message Group Press 7 to position the incoming message tape to the beginning of the current message group. The TAD says, "Beginning of messages--Enter command." 8 -- Room Monitor Press 8 to monitor the room where the TAD is located. The TAD says, "Monitor on." After about 30 seconds, monitoring autmatically stops and the TAD says, "Monitor off." To continue monitoring, press 8 again. To stop monitoring sooner, press *. 9 -- Position the Incoming Message Tape to the End of the Message Group Press 9 to position the incoming message tape to the end of the current message group. The TAD says, "Positioning to end of messages." When the tape stops, the TAD says, "End of messages-Enter command" and waits 10 seconds for the next command. 0 -- Answer On/Off Press 0 to set the TAD to answer or not answer calls. The TAD says, "Answer calls -- record messages" or "Answer off" when you press 0. If you set the TAD to not answer calls, you can still set the TAD to answer calls by calling the TAD. # -- Remote Status Check Press # to check the message status by remote. The TAD announces the number of calls and messages. Then the TAD says "Enter command" and waits 10 seconds for the next command.
