TAD-275 Telephone Answering System (430-0761) Operation Faxback Doc. # 16612 RECORDING THE OUTGOING ANNOUNCEMENT Before you can set the TAD to answer calls and record messages, you must record the announcement the caller hears when the TAD answers a call. In the announcement, ask for the callerÆs name, phone number, and message. WARNING: Do not tell callers you are away. Instead, say that you cannot come to the phone at this time. Follow these steps to record the outgoing announcement. 1. Set STOP/ON to ON. If there is an announcement, the TAD automatically plays back the outgoing announcement. If there is no announcement, the TAD beeps continuously. 2. Press and hold OGM REC/PLAY for about 3 seconds, until the red light goes off and the TAD beeps. 3. You have about 30 seconds to record your announcement. When the display begins to count down from 29, record your announcement. Speak in a strong voice about 12 inches away from the microphone. 4. When you finish recording your announcement, press OGM REC/PLAY. The TAD beeps twice and plays back the announcement. Your announcement is first saved on a digital chip, and is then recorded onto the cassette tape for backup purposes. During recording you might hear the tape rewind and fast-forward. Wait until the tape stops before continuing operation of your TAD. Checking the Outgoing Announcement You can press OGM REC/PLAY at any time to hear the outgoing announcement. The TAD beeps once and plays back the announcement. Adjust VOLUME on the right side of the TAD to a comfortable level. After playback, the TAD beeps twice. SETTING THE TAD TO ANSWER CALLS Set STOP/ON to ON so 00 appears on the display. The TAD is ready to answer calls. NOTE: The TAD hangs up and resets to answer the next call when: 1. The caller hangs up. 2. The maximum message length time of about 60 seconds is up. 3. There is more than 7 seconds of silence. The TAD can record up to about 29 minutes of incoming messages. If the incoming message tape reaches the end while a caller is leaving a message, the TAD sounds two beeps and hangs up. If the incoming message tape is full, the TAD answers calls after ten rings, plays back the outgoing announcement, then waits 7 seconds for the remote operation security code. (See "Erasing the Messages" under Remote Control Operation, see Faxback Doc. # 19235 , to free up space on the tape.) If the correct code is not entered, the TAD beeps twice and hangs up. SETTING THE TAD NOT TO ANSWER CALLS If you do not want the TAD to answer any calls, set STOP/ON to STOP. The red light turns off and - - appears on the display. NOTE: You can turn the TAD on using its remote turn-on feature. PLAYING MESSAGES After you play your messages, the TAD automatically resets to answer calls and records new messages over the old ones. To save the messages, after you listen to all your messages and the tape rewinds to the beginning, press SAVE/FAST-F once. The red light goes off and the TAD beeps. The tape fast forwards to the end of all the messages, and the number of messages appears on the display. SCREENING CALLS To screen your calls, let the TAD answer the calls and listen to the caller's message through the TADÆs speaker. If you decide to answer the call, pick up any phone connected to the same phone line as the TAD. The TAD stops recording and resets to answer the next call. NOTE: If you pick up the phone just as the TAD answers, the TAD might not stop recording. If this happens, hang up the phone for a moment and then pick it up again. POWER FAILURE The TAD saves all information, including the outgoing message, during a power failure. PL appears on the display. When the power is back on, press PLAY/REWIND to hear all the stored messages. The display resets to 00. (EB 1/9/96)
