CT-353 Handheld Cellular Phone (170-1063) Operation Faxback Doc. # 17591 MAKING A CALL 1. For the best reception, pull the antenna up and fully extend it until it locks into place. Do not leave the antenna partly extended. 2. Enter the number you want to dial. Remember to include the area code, even if you are making a local call, if this is necessary on your system. The phone displays the numbers as you enter them. NOTE: To correct a mistake, press CLR to delete the last digit, or press and hold CLR to clear all digits. 3. Press SEND. IN USE appears on the display, and the number disappears. If NO SERVICE appears, you are outside the cellular service area. If LOCKED appears, your phone is locked (see "Locking and Unlocking the phone"). NOTE: You can make emergency calls (ie: 911) and calls to the number in memory location 48, even when the phone is locked (see "Locking and Unlocking the Phone"). 4. To end the call, press END. RECEIVING A CALL When you receive an incoming call, the phone rings and CALL flashes on the display. Press any key except PWR to answer the call. If you receive a call while you are entering a number, the call is answered on the first keypress after the ringing starts. If the SILENT SERVICE option has been selected, the phone does not ring. The display lights flash instead, and the phone sounds a short beep (see "Ringing Volume"). If you do answer a call, the CALL message remains on the display (indicating a missed call). To clear the display, press any key. To end the call, press END. ADJUSTING THE RECEIVER VOLUME On the front of the phone, press ^ to increase or v to decrease the volume (to one of five levels). After pressing either key, the phone displays the selected volume level, VOLUME 1 indicates the lowest level, and VOLUME 5 indicates the highest. The phone sounds a warning beep if you try to decrease the volume below level 1 or increase it above level 5. MAKING 911 EMERGENCY CALLS Enter the emergency number (i.e., enter 9 1 1 ), then press SEND. You can do this even if the phone is locked (see "Locking and Unlocking the Phone") or if keyguard is active (see "Selecting Keyguard "). When making an emergency call, remember to give your name and cellular phone number, as well as the location of the incident. Remember that your phone might be the only means of communication at the scene of an accident; do not end the call until given permission to do so. LAST NUMBER REDIAL The phone automatically stores the last number you tried to call. To call the number you last called, ensure the display is clear, then press SEND. SIGNAL STRENGTH INDICATOR The signal strength indicator shows received signal strength. The more bars showing, the stronger the signal. If the signal is poor, try moving to a different position and check that the antenna is fully extended. If your are using the phone in a building, you might find that reception is better near a window. SECURITY FEATURES LOCKING AND UNLOCKING THE PHONE You can use the four-digit lock code to prevent outgoing calls from being made. This code is provided by your dealer when you purchase the phone. NOTE: Locking the phone does not prevent 911 emergency calls from being made. To lock or unlock the phone: 1. Press MENU 0. 2. The prompt LOCKCODE? appears. 3. Enter your four-digit lock code. It displays as asterisks (****). 4. Press STO to confirm your entry. If you made a mistake, the phone displays CODE ERROR. Return to Step 1. 5. When you enter the correct code, the phone displays LOCKED to indicate that the phone is now locked. When you unlock the phone, the message UNLOCKED briefly appears to confirm that the phone is now ready for use. SELECTING KEYGUARD You can use the keyguard function to prevent accidental operation of the phone keypad (for example, when the phone is in a purse or pocket). To activate keyguard: 1. Press MENU * 2. The phone displays KEYGUARD ACTIVE. NOTES: If any key is pressed, the phone displays PRESS MENU *, prompting you to deactivate the keyguard. You must press SEND to answer calls. To deactivate keyguard: 1. Press MENU. The phone displays PRESS MENU *. 2. Press * . The phone displays KEYGUARD OFF to confirm that normal phone operation is restored.
