PGL-300 Pager (170-8001) Message Tagging Faxback Doc. # 17649 Your pager can tag incoming messages with one of six words you store in your pager's message file. (You use a touch-tone phone to store the words. See "Storing Words in the Message File.") The caller dials your pager and enters a two-digit code followed by their phone number or some numeric message. When your pager receives the call, it displays the word that matches the two-digit code along with the number the caller entered. You can store five words in the message file, each up to eight characters long, including spaces. Example: 01 = HOME, 02 = OFFICE, ect. NOTE: You cannot store a word for 00. It is preset to URGENT. TURNING ON/OFF MESSAGE TAGGING You must turn on message tagging before you store words in the message file and before the pager tags messages. 1. Set ON/OFF to silent or audible. 2. Press ON/OFF twice, then press FORWARD until USER MESSAGE appears on the display. 3. Press ON/OFF. The current message tag setting appears on the display. 4. Press BACKSCROLL or FORWARD to turn on/off message tagging. 5. Press ON/OFF to store the setting. The display returns to the standby mode. VIEWING THE MESSAGE FILE Follow these steps to view the messages stored in the message file. 1. Set ON/OFF to silent or audible. 2. Press ON/OFF twice, then FORWARD until MESSAGE FILE appears on the display. 3. Press ON/OFF. The first message in the message file, 00 -- URGENT appears on the display. 4. To see other messages, press BACKSCROLL or FORWARD. STORING WORDS IN THE MESSAGE FILE You must use a touch-tone telephone to store messages in your pager's message file. You can store five messages, each up to eight characters long, including spaces. The pager translates numbers from the telephone tones into alphabetic characters. NOTES: If you want to store two of the same characters in a row or your need to press the same number to input a different letter, separate the numbers with 0. Dial two zeros to create a space. Press 1 once for Q, or twice for Z. 1. Set ON/OFF to silent or audible. 2. Press ON/OFF twice, then FORWARD until MESSAGE FILE appears on the display. 3. Press ON/OFF. The first message code, 00 -- URGENT, appears on the display. 4. Repeatedly press BACKSCROLL or FORWARD until the desired message code number appears on the display. 5. Press and hold down BACKSCROLL and FORWARD at the same time for two seconds. The message code flashes. 6. Use a telephone to page the pager. 7. Use the telephone's keypad to enter the desired message. Press the number once to get the first letter of the three letters that appear above the number key, press the number twice to get the second letter, or press the number three times to get the third letter. For example, enter 866606069990011 to store TOMMY Z. 8. When the message appears on the pager's display, press ON/OFF twice. The display stops flashing and the message is stored in the pager's memory. Repeat Steps 1-8 to store more messages in other message codes. (CS/all-10/26/95)
