PGL-300 Pager (170-8001) Set-up Faxback Doc. # 17650 This section contains instructions for setting the alert tone, selecting hyphenation, setting the date and time, and setting your pager to stamp your messages with the date and time they are received. NOTES: You must enter each selection within 10 seconds or the pager returns to the date/time display. See the quick reference card for a visual reference of how to set up and use your personal pager. SETTING THE ALERT TONE You can select from six different alert tones and two different tone durations for the audible mode. These are the alert tone options you can choose to have sound when your pager receives a message: Loud Beep -- two loud beeps Soft Beep -- two soft beeps BELL 1 -- two loud rings BELL 2 -- two soft rings BELL 3 -- two very soft rings NON-STOP VIB -- the pager vibrates until you read the message. Follow these steps to set the alert tone. 1. Set ON/OFF to silent or audible. 2. Press ON/OFF twice. ALERT SET appears on the display. NOTE: If there are messages stored in memory, DELETE ALL appears on the display. Press FORWARD to reach the ALERT SET menu. 3. Press ON/OFF again. The current alert tone appears on the display. 4. Press BACKSCROLL or FORWARD until the desired alert tone appears on the display. 5. Press ON/OFF to store your selection. The current alert tone duration mode appears on the display. NOTE: If you choose NON-STOP VIB, you cannot select a duration mode. The standby display appears. 6. If the current duration mode is not the mode you want, press FORWARD until the desired duration mode appears on the display. Auto Reset -- the alert tone automatically turns off after 8 seconds or you can press ON/OFF to turn it off. Non-Stop -- the alert tone sounds until you press ON/OFF. To test the selected alert tone, set ON/OFF to off (black dot), then set it back to silent or audible. AUTO HYPHEN You can set the pager to automatically hyphenate the numbers in messages you receive. The order of hyphens in your messages depends on your local paging system. NOTE: A message with more than 22 digits will not be hyphenated, even if hyphenation is turned on. Follow these steps to turn on/off auto hyphen. 1. Set ON/OFF to silent or audible. 2. Press ON/OFF twice, then FORWARD until AUTO HYPHEN appears on the display. 3. Press ON/OFF. The current hyphen mode appears on the display. 4. Press BACKSCROLL or FORWARD to turn auto hyphen on or off. 5. Press ON/OFF to store your selection in memory. SETTING THE DATE AND TIME Setting the Current Date 1. Set ON/OFF to silent or audible. 2. Press ON/OFF, FORWARD, ON/OFF, then FORWARD until DAY/DATE SET appears on the display. 3. Press ON/OFF. DAY SET appears on the display while the current day setting flashes. 4. Repeatedly press BACKSCROLL or FORWARD until the desired day flashes. 5. Press ON/OFF. MONTH SET appears on the display and the month flashes. 6. Repeatedly press BACKSCROLL or FORWARD until the desired month flashes. 7. Press ON/OFF. DATE SET appears on the display and the date flashes. 8. Repeatedly press BACKSCROLL or FORWARD until the desired date flashes. 9. Press ON/OFF. The display returns to the standby mode and the day, date, and time appear on the display. Setting the Current Time 1. Set ON/OFF to silent or audible. 2. Press ON/OFF, FORWARD, then ON/OFF until TIME SET appears on the display. 3. Press ON/OFF. The hour and A (for AM) or P (for PM) flash. 4. Repeatedly press BACKSCROLL or FORWARD until the correct hour appears on the display. 5. Press ON/OFF. The minute digits flash. 6. Repeatedly press BACKSCROLL or FORWARD until the correct minutes appear on the display. 7. Press ON/OFF. 12 or 24 flashes. 8. Repeatedly press BACKSCROLL or FORWARD until the desired setting appears on the display. Select 12 for the standard AM/PM format or select 24 for the 24-hour format. Turning On The Date/Time Stamp You can set the pager to stamp your messages with the date and time they are received. 1. Set ON/OFF to silent or audible. 2. Press ON/OFF, FORWARD, ON/OFF, then FORWARD until TIME STAMP appears on the display. 3. Press ON/OFF. The current stamp mode appears on the display (STAMP ON or STAMP OFF). 4. Press BACKSCROLL or FORWARD to turn the stamp on/off. 5. Press ON/OFF to enter your selection into memory. The display returns to the standby mode. (CS/all-10/26/95)
