DuoFone 600 Voice Dialing Phone (430-0650) Operation - Part 2 Faxback Doc. # 17915 SPEED DIAL NAMES AND NUMBERS (REDIAL) is a powerful feature in you telephone. When the window displays a name or number, you may press (REDIAL) and the number will be dialed. You can use (REDIAL) to dial 20 numbers from your voice directory 50 numbers from your speed directory NOTE: Whenever you use any automatic dialing procedure, always be sure the correct name and number are displayed in the window. If an incorrect number is being dialed, simply hang up the handset to disconnect the call before it is completed TEACHING "SINGLE TOUCH" MEMORY KEYS You may use three display buttons as "single touch" memory keys. In this way, you can dial any number with a touch of a single key. You may wish to use these keys to store emergency phone numbers. 1. When the handset is hung up, press (VOICE). Instead of lifting the handset as you would to teach a new voice name, press an option button " | "," || "," ||| " in which you wish to store a "single touch" memory number 2. Teach the telephone number and the display name just as you did in the previous chapter, "Storing the Telephone Number" and "Storing the Displayed Name" NOTE: If a "single touch" memory number already exists for the button you chose, the previous number will be replaced with the new number. To assign a number to another "single touch" memory key, repeat step 1. To end the teaching press " ||| " for DONE. DIALING WITH "SINGLE TOUCH" MEMORY KEYS When the phone line is not in use, lift the handset. The press the desired "single touch" memory key. If you are already on the phone and wish to send a number, such as a banking code, that is assigned to an option button, simply press the desired "single touch" memory key. The number will be sent without disconnecting your present call. TEACHING SPEED DIAL NAMES AND NUMBERS The phone provides a separate speed directory for 50 names and numbers. Before you can speed dial a number, you must store the name and number in the speed directory. 1. When the phone is not in use, press(DIRECTORY) Then select NEW by pressing " ||| " to add a new entry to the speed directory. 2. Teach the telephone number and the display name just as you did in "Storing the Telephone Number" and "Storing the Displayed Name. To teach another speed dial name and number, repeat steps 1 and 2. To end the teaching, press " ||| " for DONE. SPEED DIALING To speed dial any number that is stored in the speed directory, the voice directory, or in a "single touch" memory key, you may use the handset, or simply leave the handset hung up. 1. Do a directory search to locate the desired name and number. 2. When the appropriate name and number are displayed in the window, press (REDIAL). The number will be automatically dialed. NOTE: Lift the handset after pressing (REDIAL) if you left it hung up while dialing. Follow these same steps to speed dial a number, such as a banking code, during a call. The number will be sent without disconnecting your present call. USING THE DIRECTORY When you teach the phone a new name and number, you are storing information either in the voice directory, in the speed directory, or in a "single touch" memory key. You can review and use this information at any time- while the phone is hung up and not in use during a phone conversation before dialing with lifting handset. To review the directory, simply press (DIRECTORY). The names are stored alphabetically by letter group. Example: BOB DOE begins with B and can be found under the letter group. (2abc) You can review both directories and the "single touch" memory keys with a key search. The voice directory can also be reviewed with a voice search. REVIEWING THE DIRECTORIES WITH A KEY SEARCH 1. Press (DIRECTORY). Then select VOI for the voice directory or SPE for the speed directory to choose the directory you wish to search. The window displays the number of names currently stored in the directory you chose. 2. Locate the desired name using the number pad keys. Press the number key that contains the first letter of the name you wish to review. If the desired name is not showing, press the same key again. Each name in the letter group is shown alphabetically as you repeatedly press the key. After the final name, the list repeats. Press "#" repeatedly to review the entire directory in alphabetical order. Press "*" repeatedly to review the entire directory in reverse alphabetical order. Press " | "," || "," ||| " to review the name and number stored in a "single touch" memory key Two dashes on the top line indicate that no names are stored under that key. You may continue with another search. To end the review, hang up or press (FLASH), (HOLD), or (MUTE). REVIEWING THE VOICE DIRECTORY WITH A VOICE SEARCH You can review voice directory names by speaking them. 1. Lift the handset. Press (DIRECTORY). Then select VOI for the voice directory. The window displays the number of names currently stored in the voice directory 2. Press (VOICE) and listen for the beep. Say the full name as you taught it. The window displays the name on the top line and the number on the bottom line. DIALING FROM THE DIRECOTRY You can automatically speed dial any number that is stored in either the voice directory or the speed directory. You may use the handset or simply leave the handset hung up. 1. Press (DIRECTORY). Then select VOI for the voice directory or SPE for the speed directory to choose the directory you wish to search. 2. Do a key search or a voice search as described in the previous sections to locate the desired name and number. 3. When the appropriate name and number are displayed, press (REDIAL). You will hear the dial tone for a few seconds. Then the number will be automatically dialed. NOTE: Lift the handset after pressing(REDIAL) if you left it hung up while dialing. USING THE DIRECTORY DURING A CALL You may use your directory almost any time, even during a phone conversation. 1. When you need to look up a name or number, press (DIRECTORY) 2. Continue with your call as you review the directory using a key search or a voice search 3. Press (FLASH), (HOLD), or (MUTE) when you are finished with the review. You may also press (REDIAL) to dial a number, such as a banking code, without disconnecting your present call. EDITING/ERASING IN THE DIRECTORY Names and numbers in your directory can be removed or revised as easily as they were entered. 1. Press (DIRECTORY). 2. Review the appropriate directory to locate the name to be changed. 3. When the appropriate name and number are displayed, press (DIRECTORY) again. You now have the options to delete the entire entry, edit the name or number, or press " ||| " to escape if you do not wish to change this entry Select DEL to completely delete the name, number, and voiceprint. The window shows that the entry is erased Select EDIT to revise either the name or the number. Press " | " to edit the name or press " ||| " to edit the number. Make the necessary changes, just as when you first stored the name and number Select " ||| " to leave the name and number unchanged. NOTE: To change a voiceprint, you must delete the entire entry and then reteach the voice dial name and number. When the changes are complete, the window displays the edited name and number or it shows the present number of entries in the directory. 4. Press (FLASH), (HOLD), or (MUTE) to end the editing procedure. If you press (REDIAL), the number on the display will be immediately speed dialed. If you lift and hang up the handset before completing step 4, the directory entry will not be changed. CALL TIMER Whenever you make or answer a call, you activate the "call timer." The amount of time - hours-minutes-seconds - that has elapsed since you began the call displays. If you press (REDIAL) while the elapsed time is showing, the bottom line displays the telephone number for 10 seconds and then returns to the elapsed time, without dialing any digits. Because the timer begins when you finish dialing a call, and not when the party answers, the elapsed time may not correspond to the length of time shown on your telephone bell. USING (FLASH) FOR CUSTOM CALLING SERVICES If you have custom calling services such as Call Waiting or 3-Way Calling, you will need to use the (FLASH) key. Pressing (FLASH) has the effect of tapping the switchhook for the exact time interval - 1/2 second - needed to activate your custom calling services. Example: During a call, you hear the signal that a call is waiting. Press (FLASH) to connect the incoming call. Press (FLASH) again to return to your first call. Simply press (FLASH) to switch back and forth between calls. NOTE: Always use the (FLASH key instead of tapping the switchhook. Tapping the switchhook may disconnect your call. USING (HOLD) FOR PUTTING A CALL ON HOLD The phone allows you to "hold" a call on the line while you move to an extension phone or speak privately to someone else in the room. When a call is on hold, anything you say will not be heard over the phone. 1. During the call, press (HOLD). When the bottom line flash the message ON HOLD, you may safely hang up the handset without disconnecting the call. 2. To release the hold feature and continue your call, you may: Lift the handset if it has been hung up Lift the handset of any extension phone on the same line Press and release the switchhook, if you are using the handset Press (HOLD) again if you are using the handset. REDIALING THE LAST NUMBER CALLED You can redial the last number with the push of a key. When the phone is not in use, lift the handset to get a dial tone. Then press (REDIAL). The window displays the name on the top line (if the name and number are in your directory) and the number on the bottom line as it immediately dials the number. SENDING TOUCH TONES DURING A CALL If you have pulse (rotary) dial service and need to send a special number, such a bank account number or long distance access code, you can temporarily change from pulse to touch-tone dialing during the call. Make the call as you normally would using you pulse dial service. When you are ready to send the second number, press * or #. Then dial the number. The digits will be send using touch-tone signals. After you hang up, the phone returns to pulse mode. USING (MUTE) DURING A CALL During a conversation, press (MUTE) to "mute" the handset microphone so that your voice will not be heard. When the message MUTE ON is displayed, you can hear the other party but the other party cannot hear you. Press (MUTE) again to resume your conversation. To disconnect the call, hang up the handset. Example: During a call you wish to speak to someone without the other party hearing. Press (MUTE) to mute your telephone conversation. Press (MUTE) again to return to your call. SPECIAL FEATURES (VOICE) When the phone is not in use and the handset is hung up, you may repeatedly press " ||| " to scan through come of the many special features of your phone. SETTING TONE OR PULSE DIALING MODE The phone is initially set for touch-tone dial telephone service. If you do not have touch-tone service, you must set the phone to pulse mode. When the phone is not in use, press " ||| " twice to display TONE OR PULSE. Select PUL for pulse or rotary mode. Select TON so that outgoing calls will be sent with touch tones. If you have pulse (rotary) dial service, you cannot place calls in the tone mode. However, to send a bank code or to signal electronic choices over the phone, you may temporarily switch to the tone mode during a call by press *, #. See "Sending Touch Tones During a Call. If AC power is disconnected and the batteries are dead, the phone will set to pulse mode. You may temporarily switch to the tone mode by pressing the *, # keys. (/all-11/08/95)
