TAD-275 Telephone Answering System (430-0761) Installation Faxback Doc. # 19234 LOADING THE CASSETTE 1. Turn the supplied cassetteÆs hub with a pencil to take up any tape slack. 2. Lift open the cassette compartment door. Then load the cassette with its full reel to the right and its open edge toward the front of the TAD. NOTES: Replace the tape at least once a year, or more often if used heavily. Your local Radio Shack store has replacement tapes of varying lengths. When the TAD is plugged into AC power, if the tape is broken or if the cassette is not inserted properly, the TAD beeps continuously, the LED lights, and Er appears on the display. To stop the beep, unplug the adapter from AC power and then plug it back in. CHOOSING A LOCATION Choose a location for the TAD that is: Out of the way of normal activities Near a telephone jack Near an AC outlet CONNECTING TO THE TELEPHONE LINE The TAD comes with a modular plug installed on the end of the phone cable. Connect the TAD directly to the phone line by plugging it into a standard modular telephone jack. If you do not have a modular telephone jack, you can: Update the wiring yourself. Radio Shack stores sell the jacks and adapters necessary to convert from older wiring methods to modular wiring. Have the telephone company update the telephone wiring for you. The telephone company will charge you for the jack installation. They also will ask you for the USOC number of the jack to be installed. This number is RJ11C. NOTE: The TAD has a modular telephone jack labeled PHONE in back. You can connect a telephone with a modular plug to this jack. CONNECTING THE AC ADAPTER CAUTION: You must use a Class II, 120V AC/9V AC adapter that delivers at least 500 milliamps, and its plug must correctly fit the TADÆs AC jack. The supplied adapter meets these requirements. Using an adapter that does not meet these requirements could damage the TAD or the adapter. 1. Plug the small end of the supplied AC adapter into the TADÆs AC jack. 2. Plug the other end of the adapter into a standard AC outlet. (EB 1/9/96)
