ET-282 20-Memory Slim Fone (430-0548) Operation Faxback Doc. # 19403 You can use the handset as you would on any standard telephone. Lift the handset from its cradle to place or answer a call. Return the handset to the cradle to hang up. Or, if you want to end one call and immediately make another, press and release the hang-up button. Dialing a Number Not in Memory Be sure the NORM/PROG select switch is set to the NORM position. Dial the number as you would on any standard phone. NOTE: In the pulse mode, there is a short pause after you enter the numbers (while the ET-282 finishes the pulse dialing). Using REDIAL With the ET-282, you can automatically redial the last number dialed by pressing (REDIAL/PAUSE) immediately after lifting the handset. The REDIAL memory holds up to 32 digits in the pulse mode and 31 digits in the tone mode, enabling you to automatically redial even long-distance numbers. Whenever you get a busy signal, hang up the handset (or press the hang-up button). When you are ready to try calling the number again, pick up the handset (or release the hang-up button). Then, simply press (REDIAL/PAUSE) to redial. NOTES: If you attempt to redial a number that includes a mode change (TONE/PULSE switch), the phone stops dialing when it reaches the mode change entry. Dialing automatically continues after 2 seconds. The ET-282 redials the numbers in the mode (tone/pulse) you originally dialed it in, regardless of the current mode setting. You can make any entry after the redialing signals are sent out. Your additional entry is added to redial memory. Using PAUSE Some telephone systems, such as those used in offices, require you to dial a code number and then pause for the outside line to connect before you can dial the number you want to reach. When dialing a number manually or storing a number in memory, you can program this pause by pressing (REDIAL/PAUSE) in the desired position. Then, when you memory dial or use redial, the ET-282 stops at the pause entry. It continues dialing automatically after 2 seconds. The pause entry counts as one digit in memory. Pause times are cumulative. For example, If you press (REDIAL/PAUSE) a second time, the ET-282 pauses for 4 seconds. Storing a Number in Memory You can store up to 20 phone numbers of 15 or 16 digits each in memory (15 digits in tone mode, 16 digits in pulse mode). To do this, you give each of these telephone numbers a two-digit code number (00-19) for memory dialing. 1. Lift the handset. 2. Be sure the PULSE/TONE switch is set to the correct dialing mode. 3. Set the NORM/PROG switch to PROG (for programming). 4. Dial the number you wish to store. 5. Press (MEMORY). 6. Enter the two-digit code for the desired memory position (00-19). If you make a mistake, press (MEMORY) twice and begin again with step 4. NOTE: When you assign a code number, any previous telephone number stored at that position is automatically erased. You cannot erase a number in memory. Once you store it, you can only replace it with another. 7. To continue storing numbers in memory, repeat Steps 4-6 as many times as desired or until all 20 memory positions are filled. 8. Press the hang-up button. 9. Return the NORM/PROG switch to NORM. NOTE: To make a call while storing a number set the NORM/PROG switch to NORM. After you finish your call, press the hang-up button. Then, set NORM/PROG to PROG and proceed from Step 4. The number you were storing in memory is not entered yet. Re-enter it in memory. Using the Memory Index Card As you store each number in memory, make a note of the person's name next to the code number, to remind you of the number that is stored in that position. Press the plastic cover to one side and remove it. Then, write the information next to the code number, and replace the cover. Use a pencil, in case you change the stored numbers. Write you own phone number at the top of the label. Using the TONE/PULSE Switch If you have rotary (pulse-dialing) service, you can take advantage of special tone-access services, such as alternate long distance and bank-by -phone, by moving the TONE/PULSE switch to TONE to temporarily switch to tone dialing. You can move the switch when entering a number manually and when storing numbers in memory. Mode change entry takes up one position in memory. All digits that you enter after moving the switch are tone dialed. NOTE: You cannot change from the tone mode to the pulse mode. To make this change, slide the TONE/PULSE switch to PULSE, and hang up the handset. Then, lift the handset, and place your call in the pulse mode. Memory-Dialing 1. Lift the handset from the base unit or press the hang-up button. 2. Be sure that the NORM/PROG switch is in the NORM position. 3. Press (MEMORY). 4. Dial the code number (00-19) for the telephone number you want to dial. If you entered a "pulse-to-tone" mode change in memory, dialing stops at the mode change entry for 2 seconds. CAUTION: The ET-282 holds memory for approximately 15 minutes without power from the phone line. If you have the telephone disconnected longer than that, you might have to re-enter all the stored numbers. Chain-Dialing a Memory Number When using special computer services, such as alternate long distance or bank-by-phone, you must dial the telephone number of the service and wait for the computer to answer before you continue. The length of time before the computer answers can vary, so using a pre-programmed pause after a service number is not advised. However, if you store the local special service number in one memory location and the number you are calling in a second location, you can: 1. Memory-dial the local special service number. 2. Wait for the computer tone. 3. Manually enter or memory-dial your security code. NOTE: To prevent unauthorized access to your account, we recommend that you never write down or store your security code. 4. Memory-dial or manually enter the area code and long-distance number. This procedure is called chain-dialing. NOTE: If you are using pulse dialing, remember that you need to move the PULSE/TONE switch to TONE when storing numbers that you want to memory-dial after you reach the special service number. Using * and # Use these buttons in touch-tone mode for special service functions such as call-forwarding. Check with your service provider. They have no function when the phone is set to the pulse mode. (JC 1/9/96)
