DUoFONE 93T Auto Dialer (430-0297) Installation Faxback Doc. # 19574 There are two different ways you can install your AUTO DIALER: Single-Line Phones: for use with a single phone that receives calls on only one number - usually in a home. Multiple Phones: for use with all the phones in your home, all lines of a single multi-line phone or one extension shared by many multi-line phones. Single-Line Phones First unplug your phone at the wall and plug it into the AUTO DIALER jack marked PHONE. If your phone has a modular plug that looks like A, as most phones do, just squeeze the small plastic tab when plugging and unplugging. If your plug looks like B, you'll need two different 4-prong to modular Plug Adapters (Cat. No. 279-393 and 279-351). Install them according to the instructions on the package and proceed to the next step. Now, find the nearest power outlet and plug in the AC adapter supplied with your AUTO DIALER. Then plug the adapter cord into the jack marked POWER on the AUTO DIALER. Next, select the modular cord with identical plugs on both ends (supplied). Plug one end into the AUTO DIALER jack marked WALL and the other end into the jack where the phone was originally connected. This cord must be used. If it is not long enough, you can get the necessary Modular-to-Modular Line Cord (Cat. No. 279-358), to add to it, at Radio Shack. That's all there is to it. You're ready to start dialing. Once the AUTO DIALER is installed, you can mount it on the wall and put it out of the way and forget about it. Remember, the AUTO DIALER is completely controlled by the keyboard of your telephone. Multiple Phones Read this section if you want to use the AUTO DIALER with all the phones in your home, all the lines of one multi-line phone or on one line shared by many multi-line phones. These situations all require installation of a series jack. You can have this jack installed by your telephone company or interconnect company. They will ask you for a USOC code that specifies how to install the jack. The type jack for each situation is described below. For office installations, check to see if the installation that you want is compatible with your phone system. NOTE: Be sure to test the unit (as described on the next page) before the installer leaves. For more than one single-line phone, order USOC RJ31X. This jack should be installed at the first jack reached by the phone line after it enters your home or office - between the first phone and the telephone company. For one multi-line phone, order USOC RJ35X. This jack will allow the AUTO DIALER to connect to whatever line is being used. For one line connected to more than one multi-line phone, order USOC RJ31X. You will probably want this jack on the phone line that gets the fewest incoming calls, since the AUTO DIALER is used to make calling out faster and easier. The jack is installed between the multi-line switching box and the first phone. Once the jack is installed, find the nearest power outlet and plug in the AC Adapter supplied with your AUTO DIALER. Then plug the adapter cord into the jack marked POWER on the AUTO DIALER. Next, select the modular cord with the large plug at one end (supplied) and plug the large plug into the new series jack. Plug the other end of the cord into the AUTO DIALER jack marked WALL, whether the new jack is installed on the wall or on the phone. Testing the Series Jack Installation This simple test will assure you that the series jack is properly installed. To avoid a costly and time consuming second visit, the test should be made before the installer leaves. 1. Unplug all cords from the AUTO DIALER and the new series jack. Your phone(s) should work normally. 2. Insert the large plug of the short modular cord (supplied) into the series jack; leave the other end free. This should cut off the dial tone on the line(s) handled by the jack. 3. Plug the other end of the cord into the AUTO DIALER jack marked WALL, even if the new series jack is attached to the phone. Plug in the AC Adapter. Now, hang up, come off-hook, and immediately press the [*] key. Then press the [1] key and hold it down. If you don't hear a tone, the wires are reversed either in the phone or on the jack. The installer should reverse the jack's Tip and Ring and Tip 1 and Ring 1, also. The two middle wires of the jack should go to the telephone office side of Tip and Ring, not the customer side. Office Installations The following private phone systems are known to Interface with the AUTO DIALER. Not all of these systems will interface with both installation procedures hence the table format: Manufacturer Model RJ31X RJ35X Comments Executone Charter Yes Yes Auto Dialer will not work with Privacy Options Equity Yes No DTMF Generated on Line card-Auto Dialer won't work with Privacy Option Gateway Yes Unknown Auto Dialer will not work with Privacy Option Western Electric Horizon Yes No Centrex Yes Yes Code Restrictions - short hook click Jumper works better Comkey 416 Yes No Common Tip and Ring are unknown Comkey 718 Yes Yes Comkey 1434 Yes Unknown Dimension Yes Yes (100) Dimension Yes Unknown (400) Dimension Yes Unknown (2000) Stromberg- Refer to Unknown Yes Instruments with model Carlson Western numbers that corresponds Electric to Western Electric phone phones have the same models common Tip and Ring target screws TIE EK308 Yes No Auto Dialer does not work when Privacy feature installed 516 Yes Unknown See EK308 note ITT Model Unknown Yes Instruments with model numbers numbers that correspond same as to Western Electric Western phones have the same Electric common Tip and Ring target screws Mitel "Super Yes Unknown Switch" Nippon Electra 28 Yes Unknown Patrician Yes Yes Common Tip is 18 Common Ring is 19 Toshiba EKT102 Yes Unknown 'Stratta 3' Yes Unknown Iwatsu Omega III Yes No IPC No No These are ground start systems Wall Mounting The AUTO DIALER doesn't have to be mounted on the wall. It can be placed on a desk, in a closet or anywhere you like. We recommend you put it somewhere it will be out-of-the-way, to avoid damage. However, wall mounting has been engineered to be quick and convenient, and the wall mounting bracket will keep the unit safely out of harms way. Just take the small arrow-shaped bracket, and peel the protective paper from the back. Then press it, with the arrow pointing up, to any clean, dry, flat surface. Be sure to press it on firmly. If you prefer, you can also nail the bracket to the wall. Then slide the bracket into the slot on the back of the AUTO DIALER. The special locking action of the bracket will assure that the AUTO DIALER will stay put and yet be easily removed, should the need arise. (EB 2/13/96)
