Wireless Phone (430-0160) Operation Faxback Doc. # 3467 Jack System Follow these simple steps to install the system. 1. Plug the base unit into a standard AC outlet that is near a modular telephone jack. (The base unit has two modular jacks on the side.) Do not plug the base or extension unit into a power strip or surge protector/AC line filter. 2. Plug one end of the supplied modular telephone cord into the jack marked LINE on the side of the base. Then plug the other end of the cord into a modular telephone jack. Note: Be sure to plug in the base unit before you plug in the extension unit. 3. If desired, connect a telephone to the base unit by plugging its modular cord into the jack marked PHONE on the side of the base unit. 4. Plug the extension unit into any AC outlet in your home. (The extension unit has only one modular jack.) 5. Plug a telephone's modular cord into the jack on the side of the extension unit. Notes: Longer modular telephone cords are available from your local Radio Shack store. If your telephone line does not end in a modular jack, you can update it yourself with the necessary adapters available at your local Radio Shack store or have the telephone company change the jack for you. The telephone company can charge you for the installation of a jack. The USOC number of the jack to be installed is RJ11C. SETTING THE SECURITY CODE This system has security codes which prevent interference and background noise caused by similar systems. When you encounter interference, set your security codes by following these steps. 1. With both the base and extension unit(s) installed and any connected telephones on hook, press the coding button on the side of the base unit with a pencil. The green indicator on the base turns on. 2. Press the coding button on the extension unit within 5 minutes. If the code is successfully set, the extension unit's indicator blinks once. If the code is not successfully set, the indicator continues to flash. Try pressing the coding button several times until the indicator stops flashing. If you cannot make the indicator stop flashing, repeat Steps 1 and 2. 3. Wait for the base unit's indicator to turn off. Then lift the extension telephone's handset and confirm that you hear a dial tone and that there is no interference or background noise. If there is a problem, repeat Steps 1 and 2. If you cannot get a dial tone, unplug both phone jacks and reset the units (see "Resetting the System"). ADDING MORE EXTENSION UNITS You can add as many extension units (Cat. No. 43-161) as you want to the system. Simply install the extensions by following Steps 4 and 5 in "Installation." Then follow the steps in "Setting the Security Code" to set each extension's code. You can only use one extension at a time, even if you install more than one. If you lift the receiver on a phone connected to an extension unit while another extension unit is being used, you hear a busy signal. USING THE SYSTEM WITH A COMPUTER MODEM Simply plug your computer modem's telephone cord into an extension unit's modular jack. The system supports speeds up to 14,400 bps. Note: If there is static on the system, you might need to set your modem to a slower speed for effective communications. RESETTING THE SYSTEM If your wireless phone jack system is not operating, you might need to reset it. Follow these steps to reset the system. Note: You should only need to set the security code if you get interference from another system. 1. Unplug both the base and extension units from the AC outlets and disconnect all phones from the units. 2. Press the coding button on the base for 5 seconds. 3. Press the coding button on the extension(s) for 5 seconds. 4. Reinstall the system (see "Installation"). (br/all-12/06/94)
