Midnight II 13-Memory Fashion Fone (430-0829) Installation Faxback Doc. # 31418 CONNECTING THE TELEPHONE TO THE PHONE LINE Your telephone connects directly to a modular telephone line jack. If your telephone wiring does not have a modular jack, you can: Update the wiring yourself. Radio Shack stores sell jacks and adapters to convert older wiring methods to modular wiring. Have the telephone company update the wiring for you. The phone company might ask you for the USOC number of the jacks to be installed. This number is RJ11C (or RJ11W for a wall plate installation). NOTE: The telephone company charges to install the necessary jacks. SELECTING A LOCATION You can use your phone as a desk phone, mount it on a modular wall plate, or mount it directly on the wall using 2 screws (not supplied). Choose a location that is not in the way of normal activities and is near a phone jack. INSTALLING YOUR TELEPHONE On a Desktop 1. Plug one end of the supplied coiled cord into the jack on the telephone's handset. Place the handset on the cradle. 2. Plug the coiled cord's other end into the telephone base's modular jack on the left side of the phone. 3. Plug one end of the supplied flat modular cord into the modular jack on the top of the phone's base. Then place the phone on the desktop. 4. Plug the other end of the flat modular cord into the modular phone jack on the wall. On a Modular Wall Plate You can mount the phone on a standard wall plate using a short modular cord (such as Cat. No. 279-0390, not supplied). NOTES: If a wall plate is not already available, install an RJ11W modular wall jack. Your local Radio Shack store sells wall plates and short modular cords. 1. Slide the handset clip up and out of its retaining slot in the base. Rotate the clip so the tab points up, then slide the clip back into its slot. 2. Plug one end of a short modular cord into the modular jack on the top of the phone's base. 3. Thread the cord downward and into the groove on the phone's base. 4. Position the phone's base close to the wall plate and plug the other end of the short modular cord to the wall plate's modular phone jack. 5. Align the keyhold slots on the back of the phone with the mounting rivet studs on the wall plate, then push in and slide the phone's base downward to secure it in place. 6. Plug one end of the supplied coiled cord into the modular jack on the left side of the phone's base. Note: Radio Shack stores sell longer coiled handset cords that are especially useful when you mount the telephone on a wall. 7. Plug the coiled cord's other end into the modular jack on the handset. Place the telephone's handset into the cradle. Directly on a Wall 1. Drill two holes 3 15/16 inches (100 mm) apart. 2. Thread a screw (not supplied) into each hole until the heads extend only about 3/16 of an inch (5mm) from the wall. 3. Slide the handset clip up and out of its retaining slot in the base. Rotate the clip so the tab points up, then slide the clip back into its slot. 4. Plug one end of the supplied flat modular cord into the modular jack on the top of the phone's base. 5. Thread the cord downward and into the groove on the back of the phone's base. 6. Align the keyhole slots on the back of the phone with the mounting screws, then push in and slide the phone downward to secure it. 7. Plug the other end of the flat modular cord into the modular phone jack on the wall. 8. Plug one end of the supplied coiled cord into the modular jack on the left side of the phone's base.
