Congratulations on your purchase of the Sony SPP-X50 / X30 Cordless
Telephone.  This telephone system comes with a variety of features, among
them are:

     a base unit and an upright standing cordless handset, with an
     intercom so you can speak between them.

     speakerphone on the base unit (X50 only) and on the cordless
     handset for hands-free conversations. 

     a display on the cordless handset for easy operation.

     scramble system for keeping phone conversation confidential (X50 only)

     lighted keypad on the cordless handset for easy operation even in the
     dark

     storing of three one-touch dialing and ten speed-dialing numbers on
     the cordless handset

     dual-battery system to allow continuous supply of fully charged
     battery packs to the cordless handset

IDENTIFYING THE PARTS

 1  TEL (telephone) LINE jack

 2  DC IN 9V jack

 3  Charging Compartment - Holds the spare battery (supplied) for charging.

 4  DIAL MODE switch - Selects pulse or tone dialing.

 5  RINGER switch - Adjusts the volume of the telephone ring.

 6  SPEAKER VOL (volume) control.

 7  POWER lamp - Lights when power is supplied to the base unit.

 8  LINE lamp - Lights when the cordless handset is in use.

 9  CHARGE lamp - Lights when a battery is charging.

10  Microphone

11  INTERCOM button - Lets you communicate with the cordless handset.

12  HOLD button and lamp (X50 only) - Puts a call on hold.

13  SPEAKERPHONE button and lamp (X50 only) Allows hands-free conversation.

IDENTIFYING THE PARTS (HANDSET)

 1  INTERCOM button - lets you communicate with the base unit.

 2  FLASH button - Switches to a second call if you have "call waiting"
    service, or lets you make a new call.

 3  Display

 4  HOLD button - Puts a call on hold.

 5  RING ON / BATT SAVE switch - Set to RING ON to turn the ringer on.  Set
    to BATT SAVE to turn the ringer off and conserve battery power.

 6  Battery compartment

 7  REDIAL / PAUSE button - Redials the last number called.  Also inserts a
    pause in the dialing sequence.

 8  RECALL button - Accesses cordless handset speed dialing numbers.

 9  Microphone

10  SPEAKERPHONE button and lamp - Allows hands-free conversations.

11  ONE-TOUCH DIALING (A,B,C) buttons. 

12  VOL (volume) / PGM (program) - Adjusts the speaker volume or accesses
    memory dialing, scramble, or voice paging function.

13  CHANNEL button - Allows you to change channel when interference occurs.

14  Dialing keys

15  TALK button - Lets you make or receive a call.

16  Microphone


DISPLAY

1   "SCRAMBLE" message (X50 only) - Appears when the scramble system is
    turned on.

2   "OUT OF RANGE" message - Appears when the cordless handset cannot
    access the base unit.

3   Battery indicator - Indicates battery level.

4   Status bar - Indicates telephone number being dialed as well as the
    following information:

    Channel selected after scanning

    Talk time

    Status of the phone

    When the call is put on hold

    When the telephone line is engaged

    When the phone is being programmed
