SPP-X50 / 30 Sony Cordless Telephone (430-8003) Batteries Faxback Doc. # 33561 PREPARING THE BATTERY PACKS CHARGING THE BATTERY PACKS The two supplied battery packs must be charged before you can use them. One is to be inserted into the cordless handset to operate it. The other may remain in the base unit to allow continuous supply of fully charged battery packs. Also, should any power interruption occur, the base unit battery will provide backup power during the interruption. 1. Insert a battery pack (supplied) completely into charging compartment. The CHARGE lamp on the base unit lights. NOTE: If a battery pack is brand new or completely discharged, it may take 10 minutes or more before the CHARGE lamp lights. 2. Allow the battery pack to charge for about 10 hours. When charging is completed, the CHARGE lamp goes off. NOTE: Insert the second, uncharged battery pack into the charging compartment for charging. Doing so will enable you to have a continuous supply of charged battery packs. After charging, leave the battery pack in the base unit until use. HOW TO DETERMINE BATTERY DAMAGE If the battery indicator shows no or little power after you have charged the battery for over 10 hours, the battery is probably damaged. See your dealer or contact a Sony Service Center for battery replacement. INSTALLING A CHARGED BATTERY PACK After you have fully charged a battery pack in the base unit, install it into the cordless handset as follows. 1. While pressing on the \/ mark, slide open the battery compartment lid. 2. Insert the charged battery pack with correct polarity (+ and -) into the battery compartment. 3. Replace the battery compartment lid. NOTES ON CHARGING: The battery pack supplied uses a lead acid battery, and therefore you do not have to worry about the "memory effect" which repeated partial discharge and recharge of nickel-cadmium batteries can produce. It is recommended that you charge the battery pack as often as possible. If a battery pack is completely discharged, it cannot be fully recharged in a single charge. The battery packs will gradually discharge over a long period of time even if not in use. BATTERY DURATION A fully charged battery pack in the cordless handset will last approximately: 12 hours in continuous talk mode 170 hours (7 days) in RING ON mode 2 months in BATT SAVE mode TO DETERMINE THE REMAINING BATTERY POWER (The battery indicator always appears in RING ON mode.) If the cordless handset is in the BATT SAVE mode, press TALK. Battery Indicator Amount of battery power (full battery symbol) Full power (2/3 full battery symbol) Some power (Exchange the battery as soon as possible) 1/3 full battery symbol) Little power (Exchange the battery immediately). (Empty battery symbol) No power (Cordless handset cannot operate (flsahing) any more without exchanging the battery). IF THE CORDLESS HANDSET BATTERY BECOMES LOW DURING CONVERSATION The phone will beep every three seconds and the LOW BATT mark will flash. Within one minute you must transfer the call to the base unit (X50 only) or exchange the battery pack; otherwise the call will be disconnected. EXCHANGING THE BATTERY DURING CONVERSATION 1. Press HOLD to put the call on hold. The running "HOLD" message appears on the display. 2. Exchange the battery in the cordless handset with a fully charged one stored in the charging compartment of the base unit. 3. Press TALK when the running "HOLD" message appears. 4. Press HOLD to resume the conversation. IF POWER INTERRUPTION OCCURS The base unit battery will provide backup power to the base unit for approximately: 8 hours in standby mode. 2 hours in continuous talk mode. IF THE POWER SUPPLY IS CUT OFF FOR A LONG TIME If the power supply will be cut off for more than a few days, remove the battery pack from the base unit and store it away. (YO/EB 6/11/96)
