Krystalite Neon Phone (430-0809) - Pink Preparation Faxback Doc. # 33999 (430-0810) - Blue PREPARING THE PHONE FOR USE Before you use your phone, you must connect the handset, connect the phone to the phone line, connect power to the neon light, set the tone-pulse switch, and set the ringer switch. CONNECTING THE HANDSET CORD Plug one end of the supplied coiled cord into the jack on the phone handset. Then, plug the other end into the jack on the left side of the phone. NOTE: Longer coiled handset cords are available at a nearby Radio Shack store. CONNECTING TO THE TELEPHONE LINE The phone comes with modular plugs. To connect the phone to a modular jack, plug the supplied phone cord into the jack on the back of the phone. Then, plug the other end of the cord into the modular jack. NOTES: If your present wall jack is a 4-prong type, use a 4-prong-to- modular adapter (Cat. No. 279-351) available at a nearby Radio Shack store. If your telephone is wired directly to the wall, you might need to update your TELEPHONE wiring. A full line of telephone accessories is available at a nearby Radio Shack store. The telephone company can charge you for the installation of necessary jacks. The telephone company will ask you for the USOC number of the jack to be installed. This number is RJ-11C. CONNECTING POWER TO THE NEON LIGHT You can power the built-in neon light using the supplied 12 volt AC adapter. To connect the adapter, do the following: 1. Plug one end of the adapter into the phone's DC 12 V jack. 2. Plug the other end of the adapter into a standard AC outlet. CAUTIONS: Always unplug the adapter from the AC outlet before you unplug the other end from the phone. You must use an AC adapter that supplies 12 V and delivers at least 500 mA. Its center tip must be set to positive, and its plug must correctly fit the phone's DC 12V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the phone or the adaptor. The phone's built-in neon light can also be used as a night light. You can set the LAMP switch to one of these positions: LOW for a dim glow. HI for a bright glow. OFF to turn off the neon light. NOTES: The neon light turns off when you pick up the handset regardless of the LAMP switch setting. The neon light flashes when the phone rings, regardless of the LAMP switch setting. SETTING THE TONE-PULSE SWITCH Set the TONE-PULSE switch on the back of the phone, for the type of service you have. If you are not sure which setting to use, follow the steps below: 1. Set TONE-PULSE to TONE. 2. Lift the handset, and listen for a dial tone. 3. Press any number's key other than 0. If the dial tone continues, set TONE-PULSE to PULSE. If the tone stops after you press a number key, leave TONE-PULSE set to TONE. NOTE: The # key acts as a redial key when the phone is set to the PULSE mode. SETTING THE RINGER SWITCH The RINGER switch on the back of the phone lets you set the phone's volume to suit your needs. Set the RINGER SWITCH to OFF when you do not want the ringer to sound. You can continue receiving calls on the phone by lifting the handset when other phones ring on the same line. Set the RINGER switch to ON when you want the ringer to sound. (BR/EB 7/1/96)
