Information Codes

When something unusual occurs, the display shows one of the information
codes below.  These help you identify the problem.

Information code            Meaning                   Remedy

Clearing a Document Jam

If a document becomes jammed in the unit, the display shows information
Code 031. 

To clear the jam:

1.  Press the latch on right panel to open the control panel.  Swing the
    receiving unit forward.

2.  Gently press two black tabs (marked with OPEN arrow) outward to unlock
    the ADF.

3.  Remove the jammed paper.

4.  Press down the ADF gently so that it locks into place.  Close the
    control panel so that it clicks shut.

Cleaning the Feed and Head Rollers

The transmitting feed roller and head roller in your fax machine gradually
accumulate dust and black, soot-like particles in the course of regular
use.  Clean these rollers approximately once every three months.  We
recommend the use of our fax cleaning kit, Radio Shack Cat. No. 43-1250.

1.  Press the latch to open the control panel.  Swing the control panel
    forward.

2.  Gently press the two black tabs outward to unlock the ADF.  Raise the
    ADF.

3.  Wipe the while roller gently with a soft, clean cloth dampened with fax
    cleaning fluid, while rotating the roller slowly toward the front of
    the unit with your fingers.

*  Warning!
   Do not touch the edge of the ADF unit.  It is sharp and can cut your
   hands.

Cleaning the Thermal Head

You need to clean the thermal head in your TANDYFAX 1000 occasionally to
ensure clear facsimile reproduction.  How often depends on how much you
use your unit.  However, we recommend that you clean the thermal head
whenever you clean the feed roller and head roller.

To clean the thermal head:

1.  Press the latch to open the control panel.  Swing the control panel
    forward.

2.  Wipe the surface of the thermal head unit gently with a soft cloth or
    gauze dampened with fax cleaning fluid.  We recommend using the cloth
    supplied with the fax cleaning kit since the thermal head unit can
    be scratched easily.
