HS-149 (430-0192) Installation Faxback Doc. # 9705 COMPATIBLE PHONE TYPES You can use the HS-149 with most modular phones that have a keypad or dial mounted on the phone's base. Caution: Do not connect the HS-149 directly to a phone line jack or to a phone with the keypad or dial mounted on the phone's handset. The HS-149 might be damaged. SELECTING A LOCATION You can place the headset amplifier on a flat surface such as a desk, shelf, or table, or mount it directly on the phone's base. Select a location where the headset amplifier is near the phone's modular handset. MOUNTING THE HEADSET AMPLIFIER 1. Use a damp cloth to thoroughly clean both the back of the headset amplifier and the mounting location. Let both surface dry completely. 2. Separate the two parts of the supplied hook-and loop fastening tape. 3. Peel and discard the paper backing from one part of the hook and loop tape, then attach the sticky side to the back of the headset amplifier. Do not cover the battery compartment cover. 4. Test fit the headset amplifier over the mounting location, noting where the fastening tape touches the surface, then mark the location with a pencil. 5. Peel and discard the paper backing from the remaining hook and loop tape, then attach the sticky side to the location you marked. 6. Press the headset amplifier onto the mounting location. Note: You can detach and reattach the headset amplifier from the mounting location as needed. INSTALLING/REPLACING THE BATTERIES The headset amplifier requires four AA batteries (not supplied) for operation. For the longest operation and best performance, use alkaline batteries (Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552). 1. Remove the headset amplifier from the phone, then remove the battery compartment cover by sliding it in the direction of the arrow. 2. Remove the old batteries (if any) from the battery compartment. 3. Install four fresh AA batteries, as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the compartment. 4. Replace the battery compartment cover and reattach the headset amplifier to the phone. CONNECTING THE HEADSET TO THE PHONE 1. Unplug the phone's modular handset cord from the jack on the phone's base and plug it into the HANDSET jack on the headset amplifier. 2. Plug the headset amplifier's coiled cord into the jack on your phone's base. 3. Plug the headset's modular connecting cord into the HEADSET jack on the headset amplifier. (LB/all-02/24/95)
