HS-149 (430-0192) Operation Faxback Doc. # 9706 TESTING THE BATTERIES To test the batteries, press BATTERY TEST on the front of the headset amplifier. If the BATTERY TEST indicator does not light (or lights dimly), replace the batteries. PUTTING ON AND ADJUSTING THE HEADSET You can wear the headset speaker over either ear. The microphone boom swivels on the headset so you can adjust it to the appropriate position. 1. Place the headset on your head. Position the speaker over one ear and the black earpad above the other ear. Note: If the headset is loose, remove it from your head and flex it inward slightly to tighten it. 2. Hold the headset in place and bend and rotate the microphone boom until the microphone is near your mouth. Experiment until you find the position that is most comfortable. Caution: Do not twist the microphone on the end of the microphone boom. 3. Clip the modular connecting cord's attached lapel clip to a piece of your clothing . Leave enough slack in the cord so you can move your head freely without pulling the headset. Note: The connecting cord is approximately nine feet long. If you move away from the phone while wearing the headset, be sure to stay within the cord's length. MAKING/RECEIVING CALLS When you use the headset with your phone, you can still use all of your phone's features, including hold or special calling services. 1. The first time you use the headset, rotate VOLUME on the headset amplifier to its lowest setting and slide SELECT to 1. 2. Pick up the phone's handset and place it beside the base. 3. Set the headset/handset switch to the headset position. 4. To make a call, dial the phone number. When the other party answers, speak into the microphone in a normal voice. Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level as the other party speaks. To receive a call, first speak into the microphone in a normal voice, then adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level when the caller speaks. 5. If the caller or other party indicates that your voice is too loud, too low, or garbled, slide SELECT to 2 or 3, then speak into the microphone again. Leave SELECT at the setting where the caller hears you best. Notes: Once you determine which SELECT setting works best, you should not need to change it again unless you connect the HS-149 to another phone. When you first put on the headset, you might not hear sound through it. The headset turns itself on as soon as you or the caller speaks. 6. When you are finished with the call, return your phone's handset to the base, or press the phone's switchhook and make another call. Note: On a multi-line phone, you might not have to return the handset to the phone's base. Disconnect the call and/or place another call according to the instructions for your phone system. 7. To turn off the headset, set the headset/handset switch to the handset position. This conserves battery power. HEADSET AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF During a call, if there is no conversation on the phone line for more than 55 seconds, the headset turns off to save battery power. The line remains connected, and when either you or the other party speaks, the headset automatically turns on again. MUTING THE HEADSET'S AUTOMATICALLY To temporarily mute voice so a caller cannot hear you, press MUTE on the front of the headset amplifier. The MUTE indicator lights. Press MUTE again to resume normal conversation. The MUTE indicator turns off. (LB/all-02/24/95)
