EC-360 (650-0868) Operation Faxback Doc. # 15509 USING THE CALCULATOR The EC-360 automatically enters the calculator mode two seconds after you first turn it on. To enter the calculator mode from any other mode (clock, directory, or data bank), repeatedly press ON/MENU until 0. appears at the right of the display. NOTES: If you enter an incorrect value, press CE/C once. Then enter the correct value and continue with the calculation. If you press an incorrect function key, simply press the correct key and continue with the calculation. Each time you press a function key, the function's symbol appears in the display's upper right corner. Memory Calculations Press MRC twice to clear the memory before beginning a new memory calculation. Press M+ to add the result of a calculation to the value in memory. Press M- to subtract the result of a calculation from the value in memory. Press MRC once to recall the value stored in memory. Markup Calculations The markup function helps you easily find an item's selling price based on the cost and the desired profit margin, and also lets you determine the gross profit margin given the cost and selling price. The gross profit margin is the percentage of the selling price that is profit. DATA appears on the display. The EC-360's directory lets you store up to 50 records. Each record can have a name of up to 12 characters, and a telephone number of up to 12 digits. USING THE KEYPAD Each number key (0 through 9) has red characters above it. In the directory mode, each time you press a number key, the display sequences through the characters above it and the number. NOTES: If you enter an incorrect character or digit, while the cursor is flashing, press left or right arrow to move the cursor to the incorrect character, then re-enter the correct character or digit. To enter more than one character using the same number key, press right arrow then enter the next character. To enter a character space, press right arrow. To enter a dash between digits, press - (minus). ENTERING A RECORD Follow these steps to enter a name and phone number into the directory: 1. While NAME? DATA appears on the display, enter the name using the number keys that correspond to the desired characters. 2. Press ENTER. The directory stores the name in alphabetical order and the cursor moves down to the second line so you can enter the telephone number. 3. Enter the phone number (if desired), using the number keys. NOTE: You can enter a hyphen (-) in place of any digit. 4. Press ENTER. The directory stores the phone number with its associated name entry. NAME? DATA and the total number of records appear on the display. RECALLING A RECORD You can use one of two methods to recall a name and phone number -- scrolling through the entries or entering the first letter of a name. Scrolling Through the Entries To scroll through all of the entries in the directory, while NAME? DATA appears on the display, press up or down arrow. The display scrolls through the entries in alphabetical order. Entering the First Letter of a Name Follow these steps to search for a record by entering the first letter of a name. 1. While NAME? DATA appears on the display, enter the first letter of the name you want to recall. NOTE: If several records have the same first letter, you can enter as many additional letters as necessary. 2. Press down or up arrow. The display shows the first matching entry. NOTES: If the directory does not find a matching entry, NOT FOUND appears on the display. To scroll through entries starting from the displayed one, repeatedly press down arrow to scroll forward or up to scroll backward. EDITING RECORDS Follow these steps to edit a stored record (change, delete, or insert characters in a name or digits in a phone number). 1. While NAME? DATA appears on the display, recall the record you want to edit. 2. Press right arrow once to enter the edit mode. The first character in the name flashes. 3. To edit the name, repeatedly press right arrow until the character you want to edit flashes. To edit the phone number, press down arrow then repeatedly press right arrow until the digit you want to edit flashes. 4. To change the character/digit, simply enter the correct one. The new character/digit replaces the previous one. To delete the character/digit, press SHIFT then DEL. The character/digit disappears from the display and all characters/digits to the right of the deleted one shift one space to the left. To insert a character/digit, press SHIFT then INS. Starting from the flashing one, all characters/digits shift one space to the right. When the cursor flashes in the newly created space, enter the desired character/digit. 5. When the information in the record is correct, press ENTER to store it. DELETING A RECORD 1. While NAME? DATA appears on the display, recall the record you want to delete. 2. Press SHIFT then DEL. DELETE = Y/N appears and N flashes. 3. To delete the record from the directory, press left arrow to select Y, then press ENTER. To keep the record in the directory, simply press ENTER. USING THE DATA BANK You can use the data bank mode to perform special functions in these five areas. Conversions Scientific Calculations Financial Calculations World Time/Telephone Guide Time Items To enter the data bank mode, repeatedly press ON/MENU until "1. CONVERSION" appears on the display. The display shows the current data bank option in the first line and the total number of options in the second line. You can perform the specific functions (convert, calculate, display, or set) only when you get to the level where the values are asked for or displayed. Performing the special functions requires only three basic steps: Selecting the option. Entering the desired values (if required). Displaying the results. Selecting the Option To select an option, either press the desired option's number or press left or right arrow until it appears in the first line of the display. Then press ENTER. NOTE: If you select a wrong option, press CE/C to return to the previous menu, then select the correct one. Entering the Desired Values After you select the desired option, press ENTER until a prompt appears on the display followed by an = (for example, inch=, m=, ounce=) or a cursor flashes. Then enter the desired value. Displaying the Results After you enter the desired value, press ENTER. The display shows the results of a conversion or calculation. DATA BANK NOTES Conversions: Before you try to make any conversions, you must first set the current conversion rates. You can change the name of all five currency rates using up to three characters per name. Financial Calculations: The following abbreviations appear on the display when you use the financial function. Display Meaning AC Accumulation BAL Balance D Deposit FD Fixed Deposit FV Future Value INT Interest INT.RATE Interest Rate PV Present Value PMT Payment PRN Principal World Time/Telephone Guide: Once you enter the world time/telephone guide function, repeatedly press down arrow until the desired country or state in the time zone you want to check appears on the display. After you select the country or state, press ENTER to see the country's or state's capital city, date, time and telephone dialing code. The long-distance telephone dialing codes cannot be changed or deleted. Time Items: The EC-360 lets you set two daily alarms and two schedule alarms. Each of the two daily alarms beeps at a specified time of day, every day. Each of the two schedule alarms beeps only once -- at a specified date and time. When you turn on an alarm, the alarm symbol appears on the bottom of the display. At the specified time, the alarm beeps for 1 minute. Press any key to silence the alarm sooner.
