The telephone directory stores names, telephone numbers, and addresses or
company names.  You can also enter up to six FREE items, such as a fax
number, birthday, hobby, or any other information you want.  You can store
up to 384 characters per record (including next and new-line symbols).

Telephone Directory Records

One telephone directory record is made up of theses nine entries:

      NAME      FREE 1      FREE  4

      NUMBER    FREE 2      FREE  5

      ADDRESS   FREE 3      FREE  6

Use the FREE entries to store any type of data you want.  You can change
the FREE labels to match your entry, such as "HOBBY" or "BIRTHDAY" (see
"Changing the FREE Labels").

Storing Telephone Records

Follow these steps to enter a telephone record in memory.  In this example,
you enter JACKSON ERIC 817-555-5600 817-555-1234

                  443 Tandy Avenue Fort Worth Tx 76102
                  ABC Co.

NOTES:  The EC-442 sorts the telephone directory automatically according
        to the first letters in the name entry.  See "Auto Sort Sequence."

        If you make a mistake while storing telephone records, see "Basic
        Data Entry Procedures."

1.  Press TEL.  If you prefer, press CLEAR so the Name? prompt appears
    alone on the display.

2.  Enter the name last name first, since the data is sorted according to
    the name entry.

3.  Press NEXT.  A separator mark (SYMBOL) appears at the end of the line
    and NUMBER? appears on the display.

NOTES:  The telephone directory record must have at least a name entry.
        You can skip any other entries by pressing NEXT without entering
        anything.

        You can press SET to store data at any point after entering a name.
        You do not have to use all the entry positions.

4.  Enter the telephone number.  To enter two telephone numbers - for
    example, work (WK) and home (HM) - enter the first one, then press
    (RETURN) to move down to the next line.

5.  Press NEXT.  ADDRESS? appears on the display.

6.  Enter the address.

7.  Press NEXT.  FREE 1? appears on the display.

8.  Enter any other information you want.

9.  After entering all of the data you want, press SET to store it in
    memory.

NOTE:  You can also mark a record as you enter it.  Press SHIFT MARK before
       you press SET.  See "Marking a Record."

Repeat the above procedure to enter more records.

Changing the FREE Labels

To change the FREE? labels to match the contents of your entry, do the
following:

1.  Enter the telephone directory.

2.  Press FUNC twice so LABEL EDIT appears on the function menu.

3.  Press 3 to select LABEL EDIT.

4.  Use UP SYMBOL and DOWN SYMBOL to position the cursor next to the label
    you want to change.  To cancel the operation, press ESC or CLEAR.

5.  Enter the label you want (up to 14 characters).

6.  Press SET.

When you enter or recall records, the new label entry displays.

MEMO

You can store important records in MEMO, such as your passport number.
Each record can contain up to 384 characters (including next and newline
symbols).  You can add new memos as the end of stored records, or insert
them between two existing records.

Entering a Memo

In this example, you enter a memo for your passport number.

1.  Press MEMO to enter the memo mode.  If you like, press CLEAR so the
    MEMO? prompt appears alone on the display.

2.  Input the memo name and press (RETURN).  Use a short descriptive title
    so you can retrieve the record more easily.

NOTE:  You can also mark a record as you enter it.  Press SHIFT MARK before
       you press SET.  See "Marking a Record."

Inserting a New Memo

The memo mode of the EC-442 stores records in the order you enter them.
You can enter more records before, between, or at the end of the existing
records.

1.  Press MEMO to enter the memo mode.

2.  Recall the record that you want to follow the new memo, and position
    it at the top of the display.  (See "Recalling Records" under
    "Displaying/Editing Records.")

3.  Enter the new memo.

4.  Press SHIFT SET (instead of SET only) to store the memo.

CALENDAR

You can display monthly calendars from January 1901 to December 2099.  You
can also highlight holidays or anniversary dates.  You can enter 20th
century years using last two digits (94 = 1994); 21st century years must
be entered as four digits.

Displaying the Calendar from Other Modes

    When you press CALENDAR from the home time display, the calendar
    appears with the current date flashing.

    When you press CALENDAR from the scheduler, the calendar that contains
    the scheduler date you were viewing appears with the date flashing.
    Dot(s) next to a date indicate whether you have morning or afternoon
    appointments.

    From the calculator, enter the year, press DATE/TIME, enter the month,
    and press CALENDAR.  The calendar appears with the selected date
    flashing.

Selecting the Calendar Month/Date

You can select the month/date the calendar shows using either the cursor or
number keys.  Selecting a calendar month and date allows you to highlight
date(s) or display scheduler information.  See "Highlighting Dates" and
"Entering the Scheduler."

Using the Cursor Keys to Select a Month/Date

Press CALENDAR to display the calendar and use UP, DOWN, RIGHT and LEFT
SYMBOLS to move around the calendar.

Press UP SYMBOL and DOWN SYMBOL to scroll through the calendars one month
at a time.  Holding down either key scrolls the display rapidly.

The selected date flashes in a calendar.  With no date selected in a
calendar, press RIGHT SYMBOL to select the first date or LEFT SYMBOL to
select the last date.  Pressing UP SYMBOL or DOWN SYMBOL moves the flashing
date one week forward or back.  Press ESC so no date is selected to scroll
month-by-month.

Press LEFT SYMBOL or RIGHT SYMBOL to move the flashing date to the left or
right.  For example, when you press LEFT SYMBOL while Sunday is flashing,
Saturday of the previous week flashes.  When you press RIGHT SYMBOL while
Saturday is flashing, Sunday of the next week flashes.

If you press UP SYMBOL while a date in the top line of the calendar
flashes, the display changes to the previous month, with a date flashing
in the bottom line.  If you press DOWN SYMBOL while a date in the bottom
of the calendar flashes, the display changes to the next month, with a date
flashing in the top line.

Using the Number Keys to Select a Date

Within a displayed calendar, entering a number selects that date.  For
example, pressing 1 2 causes the 12th to flash.

You can also enter a specific month/date you want the calendar to display.

NOTE:  If the month/date has a single digit, you do not have to enter
       0 before the number.

To specify a month:

1.  From the calendar display, press CLEAR.

2.  Enter the year and press DATE/TIME.

3.  Enter the number of the month and press CALENDAR.

The calendar for the selected month appears.

To specify a month and date:

1.  From the calendar display, press CLEAR.

2.  Enter the year and press DATE/TIME.

3.  Enter the number of the month and press DATE/TIME).

4.  Enter the date and press CALENDAR (or DATE/TIME).

The calendar for the specified month appears on the display, with the date
you specified flashing.

Highlighting Dates

You can highlight single or multiple calendar days so the selected day is
displayed in reverse.  Highlighting could serve as a reminder of something
important that occurs on that day (such as a weekly meeting), or it could
remind you to check the memo or scheduler for that day.

Turning the Highlight On a Single Day On/Off

1.  Press CALENDAR to display the calendar.

2.  Display the Calendar with the date you want to highlight.

3.  Move the cursor so the desired date flashes and press SET to highlight.
    Pressing SET turns the highlight on and off.

Highlighting a Day of the Week

You can highlight a given day of the week up to the month and year you
specify.  This can help you to recall a recurring event on that day, such
as a weekly meeting.

1.  Press CALENDAR to display the calendar.

2.  Display the month in which you want to highlight a day of the week.

3.  Press FUNC until MULTIPLE H L, appears on the function menu.

4.  Press 3 to select MULTIPLE H L.

    NOTE:  To clear the function menu without highlighting anything press
           ESC.

5.  Enter the year to end the highlighting and press DATE/TIME.

6.  Enter the month to end the highlighting and press DATE/TIME.  The days
    of the week appear on the display with SUN flashing.

7.  Move the flashing cursor to the day of the week you want to highlight.

8.  Press INS to highlight the day of the week or DEL to remove the
    highlight.

9.  Press SET to store the highlight.

To Remove All Highlights within a Specific Month

1.  Press CALENDAR to display the calendar.

2.  Display the month in which to remove all highlights.

3.  Press FUNC so MONTH DELETE appears on the function menu.

4.  Press 2 to select MONTH DELETE.

5.  Press SET to remove all highlights, or ESC to cancel the operation
    without clearing the highlights.

To Remove All Highlights Up to a Specific Month

1.  Press CALENDAR to display the calendar.

2.  Press FUNC until ALL DELETE appears on the function menu.

3.  Press 2 to select ALL DELETE.

4.  Enter the year through which to remove highlights and press DATE/TIME.

5.  Enter the month through which to remove highlights and press
    DATE/TIME.

6.  Press SET to clear all highlights from January 1901 up to the month
    and year you specified, or ESC to cancel the operation without
    clearing the highlights.
