EC-442 (650-0847) Secret Function Faxback Doc. # 15805 The secret function lets you protect confidential information so unauthorized persons cannot access it. You can store records so your password is required to display or modify them. Creating a Password You can use up to 40 characters (letters, numbers, or symbols) for your password. IMPORTANT: If you forget the password, you must erase all your secret records. Be sure you select a password you can remember! NOTE: Not all characters/symbols available on the EC-442 can be used for your password. Follow these steps to create a password. You can enter your password to any of the EC-442's modes. In this example, you enter ABC as a password in the telephone mode. 1. Enter the telephone directory. 2. Press KEY SYMBOL. PASSWORD ? and NEW ENTRY appear on the display. 3. Enter the password you want to use. 4. Press KEY SYMBOL to store the password. You can now change modes and enter, recall, edit, or delete records just as you would in the open memory area. Any data you store is held in the secret memory area. To exit the secret memory area (and return to the open memory area), press KEY SYMBOL. KEY disappears from the display. Accessing the Secret Memory 1. Enter the telephone directory, memo mode, scheduler, or reminder mode. 2. Press KEY SYMBOL. PASSWORD? appears. 3. Enter the password. 4. Press KEY SYMBOL again. If the password you enter does not match the registered one, PASSWORD MISMATCH! appears. Try entering the correct password again. Making Open Records Secret Follow these steps to make a record secret. 1. In the open memory area, recall the record you want to make secret. 2. Press FUNC until TO SECRET AREA appears on the function menu. 3. Press 1 to select TO SECRET AREA. 4. Enter the password. 5. Press KEY SYMBOL. The display shows TRANSFER TO SECRET AREA? 6. Press SET to store the entry. Press ESC to cancel. Making Secret Records Open 1. From the secret area, recall the data you want to make open. 2. Press FUNC until TO OPEN AREA appears on the function menu. 3. Press 1 to select TO OPEN AREA. The display shows TRANSFER TO OPEN AREA? 4. Press SET to store the entry. Press ESC to cancel. Changing the Password 1. Enter the secret memory area and press CLEAR KEY. The current password appears on the display. 2. Press FUNC so PASSWORD EDIT appears in the function menu. 3. Edit the new password and press KEY SYMBOL. USING THE COPY FUNCTION You can duplicate records within the telephone directory memo, scheduler, and/or reminder modes and then edit them as needed to create new records. NOTE: You cannot copy records from one mode to another. 1. Recall the record you want to copy (see "Basic Display Procedures"). 2. Press FUNC so ITEM COPY appears on the function menu. 3. Press 3 to select ITEM COPY. The data to be copied shows on the display with the flashing cursor. If you are copying scheduler data, the following prompt appears for the date to be copied to. Enter the year to which to copy the record, press DATE/TIME: enter the month and press DATE/TIME: and enter the date and press DATE/TIME. 4. Edit the record as necessary before you copy it. 5.
