EC-342 (650-0860) Using the Spell Checker Faxback Doc. # 16782 You can enter a word and have the spell checker check its spelling. If there is no identical word in the spell checker's 85,000 word list, your EC 342 displays a list of possible spellings. CHECKING SPELLING 1. Press SPELL CHECKER. TYPE IN WORD appears on the display. 2. Enter a word the way you think it is spelled. NOTE: The word you enter can be up to 16 letters. To correct any mistakes, repeatedly press EDIT to delete letters. Then enter new letters. If you enter the wrong word press SPELL CHECKER to clear the display. Then enter the word you want. 3. Press ENTER. The spell checker search through its word list. If the word is spelled correctly, GOOD appears on the display. If the word ERROR appears, the word is incorrect. 4. To see a list of possible spellings, press VIEW repeatedly. If the spell checker cannot find any possibilities, NONE appears on the display. Try repeating steps 2-4 using a different spelling. When all similar words have been displayed, END appears on the display. If necessary, repeat steps 2-4 using a different spelling. To stop the search at any time, press SPELL CHECKER. USING THE MISSING LETTER FUNCTION This feature is great for solving crossword puzzles. You can find words even when some of the letters are missing. Your spell checker searches for a list of possible spellings. 1. Press SPELL CHECKER. 2. Enter the word, pressing * for each missing letter. For example, press M***A*** NOTES: You must supply the first letter of the word. The word you enter can be up to 16 letters. 3. Press ENTER If the spell checker finds a word that matches, it displays the word. For example, M***A*** becomes MADCAPLY. If it cannot find a word that matches, ERROR appears on the display. 4. Press VIEW to see other possibilities. For example, MAENADIC, MAGMATIC, MAGNATES, MAILABLE, MALLARDS, MALVASIA, appear in turn.
