12K Ultrathin Electronic Organizer (650-0878) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 16867 Your Radio Shack EC-378 12K Ultrathin Electronic Organizer is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for the EC-378 so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the EC-378 dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids might contain minerals that can corrode electronic circuits. Use and store the EC-378 only in normal temperature environments, and avoid sudden temperature changes. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices, damage batteries, and distort or melt plastic parts. At very low temperatures, the display's response time might slow down or the display might fail completely. This is only temporary. The EC-378 works normally again when it returns to normal temperatures. Handle the EC-378 gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage the circuit boards and cause the EC-378 to work improperly. Wipe the EC-378 with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the EC-378. Modifying or tampering the EC-378's internal components can cause a mal- function and might invalidate the warranty. If the EC-378 is not preforming as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. RESETTING THE EC-378 If the EC-378 does not work properly, use a sharp object, such as a straightened paper clip, to press RESET on the back of the EC-378. The clock/calendar display appears. NOTES: Pressing RESET clears only the current day, date, and time and the alarm time stored in memory. To delete all data and re- initialize the EC-378, see "Clearing the Memory." After you reset the EC-378, you need to re-enter the current day, date, and time. See "Viewing/Setting the Clock/Calendar." REPLACING THE BATTERY Your EC-378 is powered by one 3-volt CR2430 lithium battery (Cat. No. 23-166) and backed u by one CR1616 battery (Cat. No. 23-167). When the EC-378"s display dims or stops working properly, replace the main battery. We recommend Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-166. CAUTIONS: Never leave a dead, old or weak battery in the EC-378. It can leak chemicals and corrode or damage the electronic circuits. To protect the data stored in your EC-378, remove the old battery and install the new one as quickly as possible. Never remove both batteries at the same time. Do not press any button while you replace a battery or you might lose the information stored in the EC-378's memory. NOTES: Replace the main battery after about every 18 months of operation. Replace the back-up battery about 5 years of operation. Use only a fresh replacement battery of the required size and type. Follow these steps to replace the main battery 1. Press OFF to turn off the EC-378. 2. Remove the organizer from the protective cover, then turn it over and slide out the battery container. 3. Remove the old battery and install the new battery with the positive (+) side facing up. WARNINGS: Always dispose of the old battery promptly and properly. Do not allow children to play with the battery. It can be harmful or fatal if swallowed. Never burn a battery or it could explode. 4. Replace the battery container. (/all-09/14/95)
