10-Digit Desktop Printing Calculator (650-0752) Operation Faxback Doc. # 16961 SELECTING A FLOATING OR FIXED DECIMAL POINT The F/0/1/2/3/A decimal switch determines how many digits the calculator displays and prints out after the decimal point. When you select F, the decimal point floats. When you select 0, 1, 2, or 3, the calculator displays only the selected number of digits after the decimal point. When you select A, the calculator automatically inserts a decimal point before the last two digits for addition and subtraction. For example, if you enter 5432 +, the calculator accepts this as 54.32. All calculations use the full ten-digit accuracy of the calculator. However, if you select one of the fixed decimal point modes (0, 2, 3, A), the calculator automatically rounds the results and displays only the necessary digits. For example, if you set the decimal switch to 2, then enter 2/3 =, the calculator rounds the actual calculation result of 0.666666666 and displays only 0.67. ROUNDING NUMBERS Use 5/4 ARROW DOWN to select how the calculator rounds the numbers after the decimal point of a calculation result. When you select 5/4, the calculator rounds the numbers up or down to the nearest digit. For example, if you set F/0/1/2/3/A to 2, and set 5/4 ARROW DOWN to 5/4, then enter 1 / 3 =, the calculator rounds the actual calculation of 0.333333333 and displays 0.33. When you select ARROW DOWN the calculator rounds all numbers down For example, if you set F/0/1/2/3/A to 0, and set 5/4 ARROW DOWN to ARROW DOWN, then enter 1.5 X 23.8 =, the calculator rounds down the actual calculation of 35.7 and displays only 3.5. ENTERING DOUBLE ZEROS Press 00 to quickly enter zeros. Each time you press it, you enter two zeros. For example, if you enter 5 then 00, 500 appears on the display. SELECTING THE PRINTER MODE Use NP/P/P.IC to select whether or not the calculator prints entries and results. Select NP (no print) when you do not want to print your calculations. Select P (print) when you want the calculator to print out your calculation results as you enter them. The Calculator prints these symbols on the printer paper to show these functions: Symbol Function C Clear * Total % Percentage + Addition - Subtraction / Division <> Subtotal x Multiplication # Reference Number M Memory Calculation T Tax Rate ...... Overflow error Select P.IC (print.item count) when you want the calculator to print out the total number of items entered in a calculation. USING REFERENCE NUMBERS Use #/P to assign a desired reference number to your calculations on the printout, or to have the calculator print the number of addition or subtraction items entered. Reference numbers are not included in calculation or results. To assign a desired reference number to the result of a calculation, after you complete the calculation, enter the reference number you want to use (for example, 001, 95101, or a date 02-23-95), up to 10 digits, then press #/P. The print out shows # followed by the reference number. CORRECTING ENTERED DIGITS Use the ARROW RIGHT key to correct the last digit you entered. For example, if you want to enter 1267 but accidentally entered 1268, just press ARROW RIGHT to delete the 8. Then enter 7. CORRECTING ENTRY ERRORS If you enter an incorrect value, press C/CE once. Then enter the correct value and proceed with your calculation. If you enter an incorrect function key (+, -, x, or /), simply enter the correct function key and continue your calculation. CALCULATION ERRORS E appears at the lower left of the display when: A calculation result exceeds 10 digits. This is an overflow error (see "Approximating Overflow Errors"). A Memory calculation exceeds 10 digits (the memory contents remain unchanged). You try to divide by 0. If E appears, press C/CE to clear the error. Approximating Overflow Errors If your calculation results in a number which exceeds 10 digits, you can estimate the correct result (to 10 significant digits) by following these steps. 1. Count the number of digits displayed to the left of the decimal point. 2. Remove the decimal point. Add as many zeroes to the right of the number as there were digits to the left of the decimal point. For example, E 123, 456, 789.5 = 1,234,567,895,000,000,000. CALCULATION EXAMPLES Addition and Subtraction This calculator uses the adding machine entry method to do addition and subtraction calculations. To add or subtract, first enter the value, then press a function key (+ or -). Example: 12.55 = 15.75 + 4.20 - 10.45 - 5.30 = 16.75 - 3.80 = 12.95 Key Setup Press Display Print out A C/CE 0. 0. M+ adds the displayed value to memory. If any multiplication or division is pending, the EC-3029 performs the calculation then adds the result to memory and displays/prints it. M- subtracts the displayed value from memory. If any multiplication or division is pending, the EC-3029 performs the calculation then subtracts the result from memory and displays/prints it.
